Previews: “TONDO” @ Spoke Art (SF)

This Saturday night, May 6th, Spoke Art in San Francisco will be opening a new group show entitled TONDO. As the name of the exhibition suggests, over 50 artists were asked to contribute works that were round with creative license to use their own style and imagery. Take a look at examples of the works below (and above from Amy Sol) and make plans to hit the opening if you are in the Bay Area this weekend.

Currently at Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles, Rosson Crow has on display a series of new paintings in a show entitled The Happiest People on Earth. On May 6th, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco will be hosting a group show curated by Kirsten Anderson (owner of the recently closed Roq La Rue). One of her ongoing series of shows, Lush Life, will be brought to life again with contributions from Lauren Levato Coyne, Peter Ferguson, Laurie Hogin (seen above), Jeff Jacobson, Redd Walitzki, John Brophy, Tyler Thrasher, Travis Louie, and Laurie Lee Brom. Continuing his long time collaboration (see 2012, 2013, 2014) with Spoke Art, Tim Doyle will be opening a new solo show on May 6th at their New York location for the first time. Previews: Swoon – “To Accompany Something Invisible” @ Allouche Gallery

Tonight (April 27th) in New York, Swoon (interviewed) will be opening a new solo entitled To Accompany Something Invisible at Allouche Gallery. The comprehensive new body of work from the Brooklyn-based artist will feature some beautiful installation boxes, prep sketches and preliminary paper cutouts, as well as works on mylar, wood cuts and found objects. Rounding out the show in the Meatpacking District will be a look at elements of her studio practice on opening night including interactive printing demonstrations and paper cutting. Nanzuka Gallery in Tokyo recently opened the long awaited solo by local artist Haroshi (featured). After many successful shows worldwide, Guzo is the first major exhibition for the artist in his hometown. For this showing, the Japanese artist worked on a new concept and created a series of over 20 figurines carved from salvaged skate decks.
