Takashi Murakami x Rolling Stone Basel party

Wednesday night, AM partied with Takashi Murakami and Rolling Stone at the Louis Lounge in South Beach. Takashi certainly knows how to let loose, including his hair! This exclusive event was to celebrate the opening of Murakami’s second Geisai Miami fair. Kaws, Matzu, and Aiko were just a few of the celebrities that were in attendance. The night got reved-up fast and the crowd of VIPs took the floor to party away. Props to Josh Liner Gallery and Gallery Delaive for showing AM fun South […]

Openings: Mia @ Corey Helford Gallery

Mia was in attendance Tuesday night for “Illuminate,” (previewed/interviewed) her 3-Person show at Corey Helford. As nice as the paintings look online, Mia’s work definitely needs to be seen in person as pictures do not do the work justice. Fans of Mia’s work give proof to this as Mia has once again sold out a show. If you missed the show opening and are local, we encourage you to drop by the gallery, but please note that Illuminate only runs until December 6th. Mia will […]

Scope @ Art Basel Week Miami 2008

Scope was our first official stop and it was a whirlwind! We were stuggling to keep up with the sensory overload of abundant artwork. We thought you might like a quick sample of some interesting pieces before we head off to Pulse and Gen Art Vanguard today. Photos after the jump.

Openings: Miss Van & Jeremy Fish @ FIFTY24SF Gallery

Jeremy Fish’s “Ghost of the Barbary Coast” and Miss Van’s “Still a Little Magic” opened simultaneously tonight at FIFTY24SF Gallery. Check out the sick collaboration piece they did above. Fish’s work for this show hearkens back to the gold rush days of San Francisco where gambling, prostitution, and crime were part of the seedy Barbary Coast area. His body of work fit this theme well with his mainly wood works and gold frames along with a “saloon” area. His popularity is steadily on the rise […]

Preview: Vivisect Playset V @ Gallery 1988 SF

The fifth installment of Vivisect Playset is opening up this Friday, December 5th at Gallery 1988 SF (7-10 pm). Luke Chueh (curator since 2004) has said this will be the second to last of this annual show (last one being next year).  Also dropping will be the Greg “Craola” Simkins mini-print set that we had previously talked about – good luck for all those hunting the chase original drawings (example of this as well as full list of artists and preview images we have gathered […]

Art Basel Miami 08 Vernissage

AM dove into the main Art Basel 08 fair headfirst last night by attending the special invitation preview, known as the vernissage. With only an hour or so to scan the mind-blowing selection of art, there was no way that we were able to see it all, let alone take pictures. After the jump are images of a few pieces that inspired me to stop gawking and pick up my camera. Look for am Editor’s selection later today.

FriendsWithYou Fun House @ Scope Miami

AM felt like a kid again when we saw the installation that Scope commissioned Miami-natives FriendsWithYou to envision for the lounge area of this years’ fair. The young-at-heart artist/designer duo of Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III created their own theme park, entitled Fun House, including an inflatable moon bounce playground, concessions stands, picnic tables and more—all in the likeness of their strange and wonderful characters. The installation also has a small gallery space, which offers attendees the rare opportunity to see FWY’s fine art, […]

Openings: Attention Spam @ Adapta Gallery

A little late news, but “Attention Spam” opened last month in Hong Kong at the launch of Adapta Gallery (A collaboration between Schoeni Art Gallery Hong Kong and UKAdapta London). This group show featured the works of Cyclops, David Bray, Vesna Parchet as well as Word to Mother and D*face (seen above). Adapta Gallery hopes to bring more exposure of urban art scene to what we think will be a very receptive audience in Hong Kong.

Teaser: James Jean @ Jonathan Levine

James Jean has posted up the poster image “Hare” for his upcoming show at Jonathan Levine early next year. Set to open on January 10th, the exhibition should mark Jean’s entry into the gallery scene as he will stop working on Fables, his most famous series of covers from his illustration career. As noted on his blog, this poster is available as a high res download. Discuss James Jean here.

Preview: Jonathan LeVine @ Scope Miami/Aqua Wynwood

After not participating in art fairs for a while, gallerist Jonathan LeVine decided to double-down this year by showing in not one, but two Miami fairs. At Scope Miami, LeVine will be exhibiting a solo show by GQ Artist of the Year, Shepard Fairey. And at Aqua Wynwood, LeVine has two booths: one showing works by Ray Caesar, Xiaoqing Ding and Adam Wallacavage, and another with a solo show of WK Interact. The above pics were all that AM was provided with, but we’ll be […]
