Showing: Do Ho Suh @ Museum Voorlinden

Museum Voorlinden recently opened Do Ho Suh’s first solo institutional show in the Netherlands, an expansive body on work anchored with a series of the mesh architectural installations that the Korean artist is known for. Along with these ethereal fabric replicas of his former homes in South Korea, New York, Berlin, and London, the exhibition also includes scale models, photography, drawings, and videos. Showing: Josh Tiessen – “Streams in the Wasteland” @ Jonathan LeVine Projects

Currently at Jonathan Levine Projects, a solo show is on view from Josh Tiessen, first place winner of the inaugural Delusional Art Competition that the gallery held in 2017 (covered). Inspired the prophetic literature of the Hebrew Bible, Streams in the Wasteland features works painted on irregularly shaped panels centered thematically on depicting wild animals in abandoned spaces. Tiessen further explains – “the symbolic natural imagery offers streams of hope within the post-apocalyptic wasteland, highlighting the God-given mandate of stewardship to care for animals and the environment, which is […]

Streets / Videos: Banksy (Venice)

Making an uninvited appearance in the city during the Venice Biennale, Banksy decided to set up shop and appear to sell his art on the streets along with all the other vendors. The difference being he didn’t have a permit to do so and the art done in the elusive artist’s uniquely tongue-in-cheek style. Before he was told to leave, passerby’s were intrigued and confused by his paintings of Venice with the addition of the ubiquitous massive cruise ship in the background. Check the video below for […]

Streets: Pejac – “Gold Mine” Project @ El Dueso Prison (Spain)

Continuing his penchant of working on unconventional creative projects, Pejac recently completed a few interventions at the Penitentiary Center of El Dueso in Spain. Situated at the entrance of artist’s hometown of Santander, it was built at the beginning of the 20th century on the remains of one of Napoleon’s old forts and is considered the oldest prison in the country. Over the course of 11 days, the Spanish artist completed two murals and modified the backboard of a basketball hoop with a trompe l’oeil element. Considering where these […]

Showing: KAWS – “ALONE AGAIN” @ Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit

A couple weekends ago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (with support from Library Street Collective) opened a new show from art superstar KAWS. Entitled ALONE AGAIN, the exhibition features five large scale companion sculptures and three paintings displayed on a special mural painted by the Brooklyn-based artist. Utilizing his signature bold colors and abstracted pop imagery, the paintings really stand out against the 62-foot black and white snoopy-esque backdrop. This wall also contrasts nicely with the dark FINAL DAYS, SMALL LIE, ALONG THE WAY, BETTER KNOWING, and AT THIS TIME […]

Streets: Invader (Versailles)

French artist Invader recently unveiled an ambitious project he has been secretly working on for two years now at the historic Palace of Versailles. The anonymous street artist has placed about 40 of his infamous tiled works around the city, with some that look to be hidden in plain sight on the grounds itself. If you follow him on Instagram, you will see he based the works on various artworks, motifs, and attractions (ie: the Hall of Mirrors and Sun King symbol) associated with the national […]

May 21st will mark the official public release of Jerry Hsu‘s second book, The Beautiful Flower Is the World, photo documentation of the curiosities spotted in the world around us. The San Jose-based pro-skateboarder and artist got into the spotlight with his Table for One project featuring photos of strangers dining alone a couple of years ago, and the new publication only confirms his killer sense of humor and an eye for life’s little absurdities. As part of the first edition, an undisclosed number of […]

Showing: Jose Parla – “Anonymous Vernacular” @ Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery

A couple weeks ago, Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York opened up a solo show from Jose Parla entitled Anonymous Vernacular. One of the things that stands out to us about the Cuban-American artist’s work are the rich textures and complex layers he creates in each of his pieces, a collage of oil paints, graffiti inspired scrawl, acrylic finishes, and torn advertisments. Along with fourteen gritty new paintings, the Brooklyn-based artist has also included a reworked found object sculpture that speaks to the issue of homelessness. He further states – […]

However, much of the sculptures on display are new iterations, the most attention grabbing of which are the pieces sprayed […]
