Streets: Shepard Fairey (New Mexico)

Shepard Fairey was recently invited to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design to do a lecture as part the school’s Artists for Positive Social Change series. Of course while there, Mr. Obey decided to create a mural for his fans in New Mexico. Considering the venue, Shep decided to get up with a pro-art, anti-war piece. After sharing some shots of ROA hard at work setting up his show in Brussels, it’s now time to check out the fruits of his labor. Stop Over at Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery opened to a packed house as the Belgium-based artist’s home country’s fans came out in force to support the street muralist. Coming up in April, Fondation Cartier continues their history of stellar exhibitions with a showing from acclaimed sculptor Ron Mueck – the first major display of his work that we have seen since last year (covered). The London-based artist is planning to exhibit nine of his recent hyperrealistic pieces, including three new ones produced specifically for this event featuring two teenagers in the street, a mother and baby, and an elderly couple on the beach. Italian artist and illustrator Marco Mazzoni opened a solo show last night with Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan, Italy. As we mentioned in the preview for this show, this is Marco’s 1st solo show in a city where he has been working and living in for years. AM caught up with How & Nosm in San Francisco just as they were completing their piece on the corner Hyde & Turk in a gated parking lot in the Tenderloin. The New York-based twins have been working at a lightning pace to make the most out of the daylight during their short stay in town. After a relaxing week in Hawaii filled with art, great food, and friends we haven’t seen in awhile, it’s time to share with you photos of some more of the murals that went up for POW WOW 2013. On Saturday night, POW WOW 2013 officially closed with a finale block party at their headquarters deep in the Kaka’ako district – Lana Lane Studios.
