Streets: Shepard Fairey (New Mexico)

Shepard Fairey was recently invited to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design to do a lecture as part the school’s Artists for Positive Social Change series. Of course while there, Mr. Obey decided to create a mural for his fans in New Mexico. Considering the venue, Shep decided to get up with a pro-art, anti-war piece. See more detailed photos below… Photo Credit: StreetArtNews. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Openings: ROA – “Stop Over” @ Bodson-Emelinckx

After sharing some shots of ROA hard at work setting up his show in Brussels, it’s now time to check out the fruits of his labor. Stop Over at Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery opened to a packed house as the Belgium-based artist’s home country’s fans came out in force to support the street muralist. The showing featured multiple installations imitating a laboratory that are similar to what ROA has done in the past, but this latest iteration looked very refined and finished. Paintings on found objects were nestled […]

Streets: How & Nosm (San Francisco)

AM caught up with How & Nosm in San Francisco just as they were completing their piece on the corner Hyde & Turk in a gated parking lot in the Tenderloin. The New York-based twins have been working at a lightning pace to make the most out of the daylight during their short stay in town. Check out more pics below, as well as their Instagram, which documented the progress. Discuss How & Nosm here.

Openings: GILF! – “i EXAM” @ Arcilesi Homberg

New York artist GILF! recently unveiled a fresh body of work at Arcilesi Homberg in DUMBO. Entitled i Exam, this brand new series of paintings comes from a different direction (as seen in our visit to her studio) than her previous graff & stencil style. Drawing from the experiences of recent travels to Berlin and Miami and utilizing the 90s visual effects of the “Magic Eye”, GILF flips the retro switch and begs the question that in the age of digital preoccupation and corporate & marketing bombardment, […]

One of the collaborative pieces that seemed to work well for this year’s event was from Nychos and Jeff Soto (interviewed). With both artists who have some of the more painterly techniques there, the combination of their imagery meshed quite nicely on this large wall. Discuss POW WOW here. […]

Openings: José Parlá – ‘Broken Language’ @ Haunch of Venison

AM attended the opening of José Parlá’s Broken Language exhibition at Haunch of Venison in London last week, his first show in the UK since his significant and heavily calligraphic Adaptation/Translation exhibition back in 2008. Was it worth the wait? Hell yes. Having only had chance to see the majority of Parlá’s recent work vicariously via the internet since the Elms Lesters show, we – like many other UK fans of all things Parlá – awaited this new body of work with a strong sense of […]
