Releases: RIME – “Arrest Sheets (Felony Edition)”

This Friday (February 8th) at 12pm EST, fans of RIME will see a pretty unique release through the good people at 1xRUN. Openings: Victor Castillo – “Under Heavy Measures” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On Saturday night, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery welcomed in Victor Castillo for his new solo show entitled Under Heavy Measures. The new body of work included pieces on paper and canvas, sketches, and some sculptures that look like they came straight out of his paintings including the LA-based artist’s signature red sausage noses (see video). Attendees were treated to vivid and troubled imagery juxtaposing the innocence of children and an illustrative style with dark subject matter fraught with ominous creatures, political overtones, and violence. Another week, another Streets: World Roundup. For this edition, our headlining mural is from the Los Angeles-based Andrew Hem (interviewed). Over the weekend, AM was invited to a special event presented by New Image Art & Robert Galstian at RETNA’s (featured) studio timed nicely to coincide with the Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Last week, the National Arts Club in New York hosted the opening of their Nocturnes: Romancing the Night group exhibition. For this showing, a selection of artists including Odd Nerdrum, Steven Assael, Marshall Arisman, Bo Bartlett, Jefferson Haman, Alexandra Pacula, Richard Scott Young, Alexander Roloff, Martin Wittfooth (above), and Jason Yarmosky were asked to submit their painting that depicted night scenes or subjects blurred in a veil of twilight – a nocturne painting.
