Showing: Michael Johansson – “Still Lifes” @ Flat Gallery

Currently showing at the Flat Gallery in Milan is a solo from Sweden-based artist Michael Johansson entitled Still Lifes. On view through February 24th, the exhibition features a continuation of the conceptual artist’s three-dimensional work that deals with ideas of space and form. The re-purposing of everyday objects into perfect cubes (among other sculptural installations) arranged by different hues strikes a visually intriguing balance throughout the showspace. Look for upcoming shows at the Konsthallen Trollhättan in Sweden and Vigeland-museet in Norway. Via Designboom.

Studio Visits: Chris Berens

We had a privilege to visit Chris Berens in his new studio in Amsterdam, just after he finished his 3 new impressive works for last year’s PAN Art Fair. The studio is in an old house in the very center of Amsterdam, and is filled up with a wide selection of memorabilia, souvenirs, random objects, from old books, photographs, religious figures, vintage furniture, and medicinal glassware, to big AT-ATs in the windows. Most of the walls of the studio, especially around the isle in the middle […]

Nihalani’s innovative geometric forms, collectively entitled Portal, featured a playful nature throughout the compositions, yet at the same time exhibited a strong sense of structure. In the NY-based artist’s words – “I try to create a new visual space within the physical confines of any piece I work on, through the illusion of three-dimensional imagery contained on a two-dimensional plane. When looking at the work—orientation shifts, shapes merge, direction inverts, foreground […]
