This past weekend, Japanese artist Haroshi debuted a new body of works at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Entitled Virtual Reality, this exhibition is the second in the Big Apple by the sculptor known for utilizing used skate decks as his source material. On display this time were full-scale sculptural creations such as kicks by Airwalk, bullets, a skull, and even an incredible life size skater pulling off a handplant. Just this Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Culver City hosted the newest solo show from Andrew Schoultz entitled Fall Out. As we have come to expect form the San Francisco-based painter, the showspace was transformed with a series of installations. Just short of two weeks ago, José Parlá announced he was working on a mural titled Diary of Brooklyn, commissioned by Brooklyn’s newest arena-style concert venue and home to the Brooklyn Nets, The Barclay’s Center. This gigantic piece is the largest to date from break-out urban landscape artist José Parlá, measuring a whopping 10 x 70 feet. Last night, James Jean (interviewed) premiered his latest body of work at New York’s Tilton Gallery. Entitled Parallel Lives, this amazing collection of works demonstrated the full spectrum of talent and techniques that makes James one of the hottest artists over the past decade. The always provocative contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan is once again stirring up controversy, this time in relation to his current showing at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw. It seems our friends at Pressure Printing have been working on a special project with Mark Ryden. Entitled Wood Lincoln, this reoccurring character by Mr. Ryden’s work comes to life in a beautiful 14-color serigraph that comes in a hand carved walnut veneered wood frame measuring 33″ x 27.5″. Photographer Ryan McGinley, whose video Varuo will make it into NYC taxis starting this week, continues to be linked with fashion shoots featuring supermodels – this time with Daria Werbowy. The latest set of pics for a feature entitled Earth Angel were taken for W Magazine, whom the NY-based photog famously worked with Kate Moss for back in 2007.
