Streets: Desordes Creativas Festival (Part I) – Blu

We haven’t heard much from Blu (since April in Morocco), but it looks like the the Italian street savant has made the short trip over to Spain recently for the Desordes Creativas Festival. Set in the town of Ordes, the has a nice lineup of participants including Ericailcane, Liqen, Sam3 and more. For now, check out this amazing new wall from Blu featuring a horde of vegetables jumping into a blender, painted with some of his his signature dark humor. Tipped off by Savage Habit. James Jean for Black Dog / RSA

Los Angeles-based painter James Jean (featured), who recently took part in shows in both Beverly Hills, London, New York, and Orange County, found time in his busy schedule to collaborate with Black Dog & RSA Films. Featured here are two of the final versions along with the exquisite concept sketch, but also check out one of the initial designs that did not make the cut on his blog here. Last week, New York’s New Museum opened a new exhibition entitled Ghost in the Machine. The survey contains over 140 works of art by over 70 artists which explore the relationship between humans, machines and art. Taking over all three main gallery rooms, it providee a unique look at the digital age and its influence/interaction on the artistic movement. Streets: Banksy for the Olympics (UK)

With the Summer Olympics opening this Friday, it was only a matter of time before Banksy put his thoughts on the event out there. Two new images (unknown locations as of yet but presumably in London) were just uploaded to Mr. B’s website – one showing a missile substituted in for the javelin throw and the other stencil placed perfectly next to a a barb wire fence featuring the pole vault. Last month, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York hosted an opening reception for surreal Sicilian artist Fulvio di Piazza (a previous subject of our Art Focus). Ashes to Ashes is the painter’s powerful debut show in the United States featuring his riveting landscapes of floating islands in a world covered in ash and fire. Sculptor and photographer Jason deCaires Taylor recently made his premiere at Jonathan Levine Gallery with a solo exhibition entitled Human Nature. The British born artist who grew up with the coral reefs of Malaysia is known for taking his talents of altering environments to the ocean. Utilizing specialized PH neutral materials, Jason creates cement based sculptures and lays them in nature’s aquatic settings to create artificial reefs. One of the busiest indoor malls (with more than 200,000 visitors a day) in Hong Kong’s Time Square recently played host to the work of Mike Stilkey (interviewed). The entire ground floor featured some of his signature book / painting installations with the largest piece standing 24 feet high.
