Openings: Os Gemeos @ ICA Boston

Last week, AM took a road trip up to the ICA Boston to catch the opening week of Os Gemeos’ first ever solo museum exhibition in the U.S. The twins Otávio & Gustavo Pandolfo (aka Os Gemeos) took Beantown by storm with not only a mind blowing mural at Dewey Square’s MassDot building, but also took over two of the ICA’s exhibition rooms with a great selection of art including paintings and sculptural work. Curated by Pedro Alonzo (who also curated Shepard Fairey’s retrospective), this […]

Check out this sweet dissected Abe Lincoln piece from Ryden […]

Streets: JR – Williamsburg (New York)

Yesterday, street photograffeur JR (featured) spent the day creating a fresh mural in Brooklyn. The large building located at 338 Berry St. was in a prime spot overlooking the Williamsburg bridge and its oncoming traffic. Utilizing his signature photography and large-scale wheatpasted handiwork, the French artist made sure to give everyone in the area something to look at. JR invited AM to shoot he and his team as they scaled the eight story building in a monstrous cherry picker (aka. Boom Lift). It took hours to get […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (Boston)

Although already open to the public as of a couple days ago, the Boston ICA will be celebrating the start of the Os Gemeos exhibition (previewed) today with a waterfront launch party, complete with Caipirinhas, Brazilian street food, and DJs who will take visitors to the heart of the artists’ native São Paulo. For those lucky enough to be in Beantown, make sure you stop by the main mural at Dewey Square (former site of Occupy Boston near South Station) where the twins have painted one of […]

Futura x Hennessy Launch Party (Los Angeles)

Last night, Hennessy held the Los Angeles premiere (see NY launch here) of the VS cognac bottle designed by Futura at an exclusive launch party held at the Milk Studios in Hollywood. The special bottle is a continuation of the brand’s collaboration with high profile artists (see KAWS) and it seemed that no expense was spared with Diplo and Santigold on hand to entertain the crowd. Of particular interest to fans of the graffiti legend though were various originals on display as well as a live painting session. Also on hand […]

Openings: REVOK – “Gilgamesh” @ Known Gallery

Not only did Known Gallery host an opening reception from SABER (interviewed) on Saturday night (covered), the Los Angeles showspace also featured new works from REVOK in a joint exhibition. Entitled Gilgamesh, the collection of intricately assembled sculptural pieces represent a carefully selected montage of found materials garnered from the slowly decaying areas of Detroit, REVOK’s current city of choice and source of inspiration. These forgotten pieces of the Motor City were constructed into an intriguing display of diamonds, triangles, rectangles and other irregular polygonal shapes. Also seen in the […]

Openings: SABER – “Beautification” @ Known Gallery

Over the weekend, the Known Gallery in the heart of Los Angeles brought the summer heat with a joint exhibition between SABER (interviewed) & REVOK, two LA’s most wanted. First up are photos of the graf-inspired works from SABER collectively entitled Beautification. For this showing, record breaking artist decided to move away from the flag-inspired works that he has been working on of late and created a set of mostly figurative paintings centered around urban landscapes superimposed with his signature flowing script. Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). The location is on 23rd Street and 12th Ave in Chelsea, just a short walk from the Joshua Liner Gallery which recently curated a show with Ellis and Kris Kuksi in Los Angeles.  Other notable work this week […]

Art Focus: Jill Sylvia

This week’s artist who we want to introduce to you in our Art Focus feature is Jill Sylvia. The American artist uses an unusual medium – ledger paper – to create famous buildings in the United States utilizing a painstaking and time-consuming process. The symbolism of her raw materials is not lost on the viewers as she explores ideas of greed, debt, financial responsibility, and economics with a sort of an artistic hijacking of the idea of “accounting.” For those who are interested, head over […]

For now, check out this amazing new wall from Blu featuring a horde of vegetables jumping into a blender, painted with some of his his signature dark humor. Tipped off by Savage Habit.
