As promised, here’s a detailed look at Futura’s collaboration with world leading French cognac makers Hennessy. Just this past Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles hosted Go West, a joint show between Kris Kuksi and David Ellis curated by Joshua Liner that is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York last May where the two galleries roles were flip-flopped. A couple nights ago, AM was able to stop by the Whitney Museum in New York to attend the opening of the Yayoi Kusama solo exhibition. The traveling retrospective, which was recently shown at the Tate Modern in London (covered), features a diverse selection of her work from the 1940s through the present including traditional Japanese paintings, her canvases utilizing repeating motifs of dots and nets, furniture bristling with soft-sculpture phalluses, her polka-dot-painted pumpkins, whole room light installations, and more. Last weekend, the Andy Kehoe unveiled a new selection of work featuring a new technique of layering his paintings with resin (and even some local flora). Despite the use of a new medium, Into The Depths at Thinkspace Gallery still highlights the reasons why the Pittsburgh-based painter is popular with his fans – autumnal imagery and colors, mysterious characters, and imaginative backgrounds. Openings: Colin Christian – “Hello, Pretty Pretty” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Over the weekend, alongside new work from RISK, the talented Colin Christian (interviewed) put a selection of his sculptural creations on display at the Corey Helford Gallery. Much like his showing in Texas earlier in the year (covered), the new body of work collectively entitled Hello, Pretty Pretty featured a mix of free standing figures and wall mounted faces, all produced in Christian’s signature cyber-erotic aesthetic. Damien Hirst Donates Artwork To Burger King

Not content to just have his work displayed in an upmarket Shoreditch eatery (Tramshed Restaurant), British artist Damien Hirst has gone to the other end of the market and donated a piece of art to the Burger King in Leicester Square. The newly remodeled “Flameship” restaurant is located in the heart of London’s biggest tourist district which means visitors in town for the upcoming Olympics will come up close and personal with the spin painting. For our newest Art Focus feature, we turn our attention to the sculptures of Korean artist Hyungkoo Lee. His Homo Animatus series of works feature skeletal representations of familiar cartoon characters created out of resin, aluminum sticks, stainless steel wires, springs, and oil paint.
