Streets: Rafael Barrios (New York)

For those who haven’t seen them yet, you have until June 30th to check out nine visually intriguing sculptures from Venezuelan-American artist Rafael Barrios in New York. Featured in the Park Avenue Malls between 50th and 68th Streets, the slender works play like an optical illusion and almost appear like digital effects when seen in photos. Openings: Ai Yamaguchi – “Ashita Mata” @ 10 Chancery Lane Gallery

Hong Kong’s 10 Chancery Lane is recently collaborated with Tokyo’s Mizuma Art for the first solo HK exhibition by Ai Yamaguchi. The show, entitled Ashita Mata (Again Tomorrow), consists of a varied body of work including prints, murals and an amazing large-scale installation composed of many individual paintings. Yamaguchi seems to be continually expanding artistically through the use of these different mediums and configurations while all the time remaining true to her longtime imagery of beautiful and young edo-period courtesans.

Studio Visits: Mark Dean Veca

We recently had the chance to stop by Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) studio again to get an update on what he has been working on of late. Streets / Upcoming: Vhils @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

After seeding his home city of Lisbon with multiple murals (here, here, here & here) and opening a show (covered) there at Vera Cortês Art Agency, Vhils (filmed) is now in Paris preparing for his solo at Magda Danysz opening June 23rd. ADAA ’12: Yoshitomo Nara – “Works on Paper” @ Pace Gallery

Several months ago at the ADAA Art Show, we caught some new work from Yoshitomo Nara as he made his solo fair debut with Pace Gallery. Renewing the the synergy found in Copenhagen during their joint show, Andrew Schoultz and Richard Colman headed up north to work together on another exhibtion – Destroyer. Held at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto, the two friends brought along some of their signature imagery in the form of paintings as well as some sweet indoor murals.
