A couple weeks ago in Dijon, France, the Consortium Museum opened the first ever institutional exhibition devoted to Emily Mae Smith. Bringing together about forty artworks made between 2014 and 2018 from private collections, the show gives a nice overview of the American artist’s recent output. On January 12th, Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting another new body of work from Kazuki Takamatsu in their Downtown Los Angeles showspace. The Way To Release From The Restraint features the Japanese artist’s surreal imagery created with his unique monochromatic depth mapping technique, starting digitally and ending with hand painting. His precociously seductive characters, mixed with symbols of death & violence, balance between the worlds of kawaii and darker themes. One of the installations that grabbed the most attention this year at the Amsterdam Light Festival was a piece by artist Gali May Lucas (Design Bridge).
