Recently in Los Angeles, Michael Page (interviewed) had a show on display that just closed at the Corey Helford Gallery. Nostalgia Kills features fourteen new acrylic and oil paintings that take a look back at childhood – if your childhood was a surreal dreamscape exploding with a vibrant color palette. Page further explains – “Now that I am a father and get to play with my kids everyday, I get to see the world and all its wonders through their eyes. As I look back over the years […]

Previews: Alex Gross – “Antisocial Network” @ Corey Helford Gallery

This Saturday night (February 25th), Alex Gross (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work collectively entitled Antisocial Network to his fans in Los Angeles. Hosted by Corey Helford Gallery, the new paintings continue to explore the pervasion of technology and social media in our lives and its deleterious effects of pulling us apart instead of bringing us closer together. His characters often have a distracted look on their face as they use cell phones (or even VR headsets) or just seem lost in their own thoughts or […]

POW! WOW! ’17 / Streets: Recap

After showing you some in-progress shots and some sneak peeks of the massive amount of work in progress on the streets of Kakaako, we now have a recap of many of the walls and public interventions that were created for POW! WOW! Hawaii. This year’s event had locations that were more compact and centrally located, leading to a more easily navigated set of murals. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17: Walking The Streets (Part 1)

When the call comes from POW! WOW! Hawaii for an artist to join the festivities, oftentimes it doesn’t take long for them to say YES! The annual get together is almost like a reunion of sorts as participants around the world get to see their friends and colleagues again – in an idyllic island setting. The main attraction of the event of course are the plethora of opportunities to catch public art in progress, all centered in the Kakaako district of Honolulu. While walking the streets, we […]

Nicola Verlato x Gatorade Messi Painting

Nicola Verlato (featured) recently reminded his fans of a commercial project he worked on a year ago centered on the incomparable Lionel Messi. The painting for Gatorade’s Don’t Go Down campaign features the superhero-like Argentine soccer player breaking free from a pack of defenders. The Italian artist’s paintings oftentimes features action shots of bodies suspended in moments of time so this seemed to be a perfect pairing of concept and artist. Recalling his month working with the agency on the project as a real struggle, Verlato now sees the positives when […]

Spanish artist Escif recently teamed up with Incipit Art to create a unique environmental project to reforest Mount Olivella – BREATH. Deforested by the middle of 1700s, with serious consequences such as the hydro geological instability which still causes floods in the surrounding areas, this 1,025 meter high mountain is a symbol of the crisis that […]

Openings: Jeremiah Jenkins – “Everything Must Go” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Earlier this month, Hashimoto Contemporary opened a solo show from Jeremiah Jenkins entitled Everything Must Go. The new body of work includes sculptural works from the local artist that display his signature wit and novel technique of dismantling an item’s original form and recreating it in a way to make the viewer think. The most delightful pieces come from his Trophy series where the ubiquitous golden figures seen on top of the common prizes appear to have taken a lives of their own.
