Showing: Marilyn Minter – “Pretty/Dirty” @ Orange County Museum of Art

Earlier this month, Marilyn Minter opened a new show at the Orange County Museum of Art entitled Pretty/Dirty. The retrospective features over 25 paintings made between 1976 and 2015, three video works, and several photographs that highlight the American artist’s focus on society’s obsession with feminine beauty. Included are her iconic and lush works that focus on various eroticized parts of the female body like the feet, lips, and eyes. The exhibition will be on view through July 10th. After recently creating new works in the Al-Hussein Palestinian refugee camp in Amman, Jordan (covered), Pejac continued travelling around Arab kingdom while creating more refugee focused works. Reviewed here are the pieces the Spanish artist painted in Azraq Camp and on the streets of Amman. Updated: solidARTy.org (II)

We recently got an update from solidARTy.org that they are started another round of charity art auctions on their website. The project launched back in November by auctioning artworks donated by artists, galleries and studios, with 100% of the proceeds going to AreYouSyrious.org organization. So far they have raised over €20,000 for the cause and are now continuing their efforts by offering more original and rare, editioned work by world renowned street, urban and contemporary artists. Streets: El Mac – “Desert Rose” @ Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum

The Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona recently commissioned gifted muralist El Mac to create a piece on one of their concrete exterior walls. Painted in the Los Angeles-based artist’s unique rippled style of applying spray paint, Desert Rose depicts one of his good friends and features some background designs at the top by a local Mesa resident and graffiti artist from the early 90’s – Mando Rascón. Recap: Amy Sol – “Garden Garmine” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last month, Amy Sol (interviewed) shared her newest body of work with her fans in Los Angeles at Thinkspace Gallery. Entitled Garden Gamine, her delicate scenes of creatures coexisting with her female subjects were rendered for the first time in oils. Jeff Soto for Empellón Taqueria (New York)

Earlier this month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) painted (with the assistance of his brother and sister-in-law) an impressive two-wall mural at Empellón in New York. Invited in by one of his long-time fans and chef Alex Stupak (seen below) to infuse his surreal imagery onto the walls of his West Village outpost, the California native chose to highlight the rooster as well a group of pottery growing imagined plants and succulents. The artwork was part of a remodel of the taqueria is largely symbolic, with themes of family, life and death, and nature. Streets: 1010 // The Crystal Ship (Belgium)

After a look at what ROA painted for the Crystal Ship Festival on the streets of Ostend, we now can share some photos of 1010 at work for the event. The German artist painted his signature patterns on these side of a structure, providing a striking contrast to the drab building with this optical illusion. Showing: “City Lights” @ Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art

Although the opening was delayed due to the terrible recent events in Brussels, City Lights at the newly formed Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art ended up kicking off successfully earlier this month.
