Titifreak for Seido Restaurant (Rio de Janeiro)

Brazilian street artist Ttitfreak recently released photos of a mural he recently painted for Seido Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro. Drawing from his Japanese heritage, his imagery fits in perfectly with the cuisine in this restaurant which in this case featured one of the koi fish that we often see from him. Take a look at more progress shots down below and stop by for a look if you are in town for the World Cup. Photo credit: Henrique Madeira. Discuss Titifreak here.

Basel Week HK ’14: How & Nosm – “Sake Art Bottle” @ Yardbird

During the craziness that was Art Basel Hong Kong, one of the events we attended was How & Nosm’s debut & celebration of their Sake Art Bottle at HK’s Yardbird as well as the unveiling of two site specific murals. As previewed, this unique collaboration project fused the restaurant’s artist sake line with the iconic color & styling of the German born twins. The project featured a silkscreen process that imprints the artwork by the brothers on the front of the collectible bottle. Hand-signed and hand-numbered, the bottle was produced in a […]

Openings: JR – “The Close Up” @ Magda Danysz (Shanghai)

During AM‘s recent trip we stopped by the streets of Shanghai to participate in the phenomenon that is the Inside / Out photobooth truck. Next to follow that up, we stopped by Magda Danysz to catch JR’s (interviewed) latest show. Entitled The Close Up, this exhibition marks the return of the French artist to the gallery’s Shanghai location after four years (see the first show here). The works range from his grand photographs taken from projects around the world to his wood impressions to his haunting eye pieces […]

Previews: Curiot – “La Creacion de Nirak’tuh” @ Fifty24Mx

Favio Martínez aka Curiot is opening his first solo show in his homeland at Fifty24Mx gallery in Mexico City on the 14th of June. He is currently one of the more recognized urban artists of the country, with shows in Europe and USA under his belt, as well as large murals being painted around the world. In his work, he cleverly uses the elements of the traditional Mexican art, with the dynamics and energy the street art that he’s been influenced by, resulting in unusual surrealistic imagery. Also […]

Recap: Ken Sortais – “Les Peregrinations De Si Atroce” @ Galerie Celal

Last month, Galerie Celal in Paris opened up a new show from Ken Sortais (aka Cony from PAL Crew) entitled Les Peregrinations De Si Atroce. The Frenchman who was once a pro golfer who in the end could not resist his love for graffiti put together a new body of works featuring paintings and sculptures that takes viewer on a symbolic journey. While looking at a further abstraction of his usual work, one can almost see hints of something emerge in the lines and patterns, yet can’t be […]

Recap: POW! WOW! Taiwan

Last week, the first POW! WOW! Taiwan wrapped up successfully as invited artists finished public works throughout the capital city of Taipei. With the main event based in Hawaii (see 2014), it looks like the crew behind this annual art retreat will be branching out to different parts of the world. Taipei’s version featured some familiar faces and some new talent, including some local artists. We have already shared photos of James Jean’s impressive wall and an associated show from Brendan Monroe & Evah Fan, […]

On June 14th, a true New York City legend, Futura, will be opening a solo show at Magda Danysz Gallery at their location in Paris. Entitled Introspective, the new body of work will no doubt feature the pioneering artist’s post graffiti abstractions as well as forms of his signature atom sign and pointman character. So fans who are in France who may also have been recently following his commercial work (see NBA & World Cup), will not want to miss a rare chance to see his […]

Openings: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.  Along with pieces from over 100 artists (list seen below), Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini also created a site-specific installation featuring a series of paintings interspersed throughout mural elements. Roster: 2501, Adam Friedman, Adam Weir, Akiko Masker, Alex Lukas, Alicia Dubnyckyj, […]

Streets: DALeast (Cape Town)

While being fully focused on his studio work and painting works for his upcoming solo show at Jonathan LeVine in NYC later this year, DALeast recently found time to create this quick street piece in Cape Town. Titled Raiden-EX1, this mural features another one of his wild cats, this time blending in with the busy traffic in the legislative capital of South Africa. Constantly focused on nature and its power, this time DAL painted the wild beast that looks like it upgraded its source of energy with human equipment. In the […]

Openings: Franco “Jaz” Fasoli – “Vinculo” @ BC Gallery

Argentinian based artist Franco Fasoli aka JAZ opened a solo show at BC Gallery in Berlin on June 6th. Titled Vinculo, this exhibition is a continuation of the successful collaboration between the gallery and the artist. The paintings created for this show are “defined by the tensions of ambivalence,” and instead of showing his signature anamorphic imagery, are “divided” into animalistic and humanoid ones. Focused on the powerful and aggressive appearance of the animals, especially wild cats, and violent behavior of humans, Fasoli created a series of complementing works.  The […]
