DALeast went dark and dirty with his latest piece at this year’s Avant Garde Urbano festival. This 30′ x 60′ corner wrapped intertwined beast of a piece had one particular local screaming bloody murder, claiming it was a work of the devil while a handful of others graciously said it was just what this decomposing lot needed to breath some new life into its former shell of a structure now exposed to the open air. For those who were busy over the weekend, here is a summary of the latest Banksy pieces for his Better Out Than In art residency in New York. In addition to street stencils, Mr. B also blessed the Big Apple with more “performance art” with a truck filled with animated stuffed animals heading for the slaughter house (see video below). Last month, AM paid a visit to the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York to take in a new solo show from Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed), otherwise known as Elbow-Toe. Utilizing a painstaking process involving shards of cut paper in place of brush strokes, the resulting art works are amazingly textural and complex. The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week. Not long after finishing his big installation at Rice University Art Gallery, prolific artist Gaia is back on the streets focusing on a new mural in Kingston, NY for the O+ Festival, a very unique event in which artists exchange their contributions for health and wellness services from art-loving doctors, dentists, and other medical providers. On his recent travels around the world, Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed) stopped recently in Malaga, Spain, to leave his mark for the Malaga Maus project. Always up for pushing his work and technique, the artist decided not to place his mural on a flat wall, but used the architectural challenges of the place. Faith47 recently dropped one of her most iconic murals to date in the quaint town of Tudela De Navarra at the fourth annual Avant Garde Urbano Festival (also see our coverage of Vhils’ piece). In an area of Spain that is heavily influenced by Catholicism, she appropriately integrated a piece depicting a strong likeness to the Virgin Mary entitled saturation.incubation.illumination.
