NY born artist Gaia just finished setting up a new complex installation at the Rice University Art Gallery which will be officially revealed and opened tonight. The prolific Baltimore and Brooklyn-based artist has spent the last couple of years traveling the world, getting engaged in different projects, campaigns and efforts. Upcoming: Joram Roukes – “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” @ B15 Gallery

Tomorrow night (September 27th) in Denmark, at the B15 Gallery in Copenhagen, Joram Roukes will be presenting a new solo show. Entitled Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, the exhibition at the Islands Brygge showspace will feature the Dutch artist’s visual adaptations of the influential Smashing Pumpkins album of the same name. The exhibition runs through November 8th, so stop by if you are in the area.

Prolific street muralist Aryz is back in action with a new wall painted in Germany. The new piece was arranged by Positive-Propoganda, a non-profit art association based in Munich, which is dedicated to establishing contemporary and socio-political art in urban spaces. Earlier this month, the Buddy System Invitational (curated by Sven Davis) opened at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The group exhibition centered on the interesting concept having each of the 22 invited artists bring along a fellow artist to exhibit alongside them with each contributing one 16 x 20″ & one 8 x 8″ artwork. Opening next month at Hellion Gallery is Inhabitants – a two person show featuring the work of Portland based artists JShea & Stephanie Buer. We’ve been following Stephanie Buer’s work since we first came across it a couple of years ago. For those familiar with his work, the pieces from Boris “Delta” Tellegen, whether on the streets or in galleries, are very structural in nature. Interestingly, he has taken the architectural elements to his craft and applied them to the facade of a building in Harleem in the Netherlands. Commissioned by Ymere, a social housing company, the new housing block will feature Tellegen’s special post-graffiti aesthetic in the form of the pattern and shape of brickwork and windows on its surface. The BC Gallery just opened a group exhibition in Berlin called HYPERGRAPHIA dedicated to the power of the letter, curated by Maximiliano Ruiz. Each artist in the international lineup is showing a different angle of graffiti influenced calligraphy, from New York graffiti tags to urban calligraphy. The show which includes HEIKO ZAHLMANN (D), MAX RIPPON (US), SOWAT (F), STOHEAD (D), TILT (F), VINCENT ABADIE HAFEZ (F), OS+FORTES (BR) also includes works on paper from Brazil’s pixação movement.

Previews: Casey Gray – ‘Tropic’ @ White Walls

Bay Area artist Casey Gray is set to open his third solo exhibition with SF gallery White Walls on October 12th. The show is entitled Tropic, and looks to be packed with imagery that conjures up the scent of pina coladas and coconut oil. We’ve watched Casey’s work develop over the last few years and these boldly composed still life stencils look to be executed with a new level of mastery of his chosen technique. Definitely one to catch if you are in the Bay Area.

Studio Visits: Faile @ Dallas Contemporary

The anticipation has been building in the art community on Faile’s upcoming exhibition at the Dallas Contemporary. The New York based duo of Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller have been working non-stop since their incredible project with the New York City Ballet for this trip to Texas.
