Releases: KAWS – “BFF (Pink)” Figure

Starting tomorrow at 10 am (EST), KAWS will be releasing the pink version of his BFF vinyl figure thru his website. Also available at that time will be the black colorway, and for those completists out there, the MoMA design store will have all three colors (blue, black, and pink) at their physical location as well as online starting tomorrow. Streets: Aaron Li-Hill (New Delhi)

Recently in India, Aaron Li-Hill (interviewed) painted a wall in New Delhi entitled Nature’s Arch and Visions of Altered Landscapes. Openings: KAWS @ Galerie Perrotin (Tokyo)

Last night, AM stopped by the Tokyo branch of Galerie Perrotin to catch the opening of KAWS’ solo show, his first of two in Asia with Hong Kong coming up. Attended by his Japanese admirers (some from his Original-Fake days), international superfans, and the usual cast of locally-based artist friends, the opening showcased the Brooklyn-based artist’s newest pop culture character-based abstractions including a sweet Snoopy airplane shaped painting.Take a look at more photos from the opening reception below… Discuss this show here. Streets: Sensemurs Project (Valencia, Spain)

Recently in the La Punta area just outside of Valencia, Spain, a group of street artists got together to help the local population protest the actions of the port authority and the local government have taken since 2001. Because of their focus on urban development, locales were forced to move into social housing only 100’s of meters from their old homes and gardens. ON THE MOVE, a new group show opened tonight at KIRK Gallery in Denmark featuring the work of Fintan Mcgee, Joram Roukes, Robert Proch, Christian Verginer, Telmo Miel (seen above), Wiley Wallace, James Bullough, Ratur & Sckaro and Wes21. The gallery in Aalborg is responsible for the Out in the Open project that has brought many muralists to the area including some who are included in this exhibition. Streets: Okuda // Las Fallas Festival (Valencia, Spain)

Taking place in the middle of March every year in Valencia is the Las Fallas Festival (or Festival of Fire) which has evolved from the feast day for St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters into a five day extravaganza. The highlight of the event is the creation and destruction of a fallas (or ninots), one of which this year was designed by Spanish artist Okuda.
