Streets: Sam3 (Madrid)

After visiting the Fame Festival, we came away with a even greater respect for Sam3’s deceptively simple shadow work, especially after seeing a pretty awesome piece in the gallery show. It looks like the Spanish artist has been busy as he also recently completed a complex set of three murals in Madrid. Take a closer look at the triptych after the jump…

Preview: Nathan Ota x Risk @ Hurley Space

Take a look at the date of the photo above. It was taken almost 25 years ago of Nathan Ota (who recently opened his solo in LA) and RISK (of MSK fame). And yes, surprisingly like many of the fine artists we follow, Nathan had a background in graffiti. After losing touch for a long time, the duo have reunited for a collaboration mural at the Hurley Space in Orange County. Stop by to take a look for yourself on Saturday, October 16th (6-10pm) and […]

Artwork Donated by Banksy Sells for $75,000 @ Christie’s

The artwork pictured above recently sold at Christie’s Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Auction for $75,000. The 2010 spray enamel on found aluminium sign piece measures 36″ x 36″ and was donated by Banksy to help benefit the restoration fund for “Defenestration” in San Francisco. Kudos to the elusive artist for helping out a worthy cause. For those die-hard Banksy collectors that are curious, yes, the work has been authenticated by Pest Control Office. Teaser: Invader – “Roma 2010 & Other Curiosities” @ Wunderkammern (Italy)

French street art phenom Invader has trained his sights on his next target, quietly mobilizing a army of alien assassins poised to attack neighboring Italy with his first solo in over a year. Opening October 23rd at Wunderkammern, Roma 2010 & Other Curiosities will in part continue the artist’s self-ascribed “RubikCubism”, an inventive re-purposing of the definitive hand-held puzzle toy that first manifested itself during his tribute to classic album cover art in NYC (covered) and saw further rearrangements with last years UK solo (covered). […]

Moniker ’10: Labrona @ Campbarbossa

After our interview with him earlier this year, Labrona has continued putting up street works like the piece seen above. For this year’s Moniker Art Fair though, the Canadian artist will be exhibiting some of his paintings at the Campbarbossa booth featuring his familiar imagery arranged in his typical stain glass like geometrical motifs. Take a look at preview images after the jump…

Setup: Moniker Art Fair – London 2010

We’re in London excited for the upcoming Moniker Art Fair on October 14th-17th (coinciding with Frieze Art Fair). It looks to be a rad event with many of the galleries that you’ve come to love on AM exhibiting like New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. We caught the setup as the crews are busy setting up site specific installations. Steve “ESPO” Powers & Faith47 were on hand to create gorgeous murals on the outside of the […]

Update: JR – “The Wrinkles of the City” (Shanghai Biennale)

It looks like JR’s latest project (through Galerie Magda Danysz) is underway in China as he starts his installs for “The Wrinkles of the City”. The street pieces are set to coincide with the Shanghai Biennale and will feature the French photographer’s captured images of the elderly who represent the memory of the city. These photos will be pasted up at locations that he feels speak to the heritage of a city that has definitely has its share of ups and downs – “from the […]

Beyond Eden ‘10: Bumblebee – “Bed Bugs” @ Carmichael Gallery

We at AM have been following Bumblebee’s work for a long time now and are now happy to provide coverage of his first ever solo exhibition. The buzzing and buzzed-about artist treated the Beyond Eden crowd to imagery of bees, children, environmental awareness and the joys of childhood, in an installation and collection of works that included sculpture and paintings. The colorful show was one of the top highlights of the entire fair and we are happy to hear that it completely sold out. See […]
