Celebrated street turned contemporary artist, KAWS, will be opening his first solo museum exhibition next month at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. The show will include “his most recent paintings, sculptures, and drawings, as well as a survey of apparel, product and graphic designs, and limited-edition toys.” We can’t wait to see the whole setup, but we imagine it will be similar to what our friend Pirovino has in his collection (well, at least the 4 Foot KAWS figures). After throwing the best premiere party for his documentary in Los Angeles and gifting San Francisco with the most street pieces, Banksy appears to have been taking a whirlwind tour of other major North American cities. One of the shows that opened tonight at the Guerrero Gallery was Alex Lukas’ solo “These Are The Days of Miracle and Wonder”. Along with the post-apocalyptic imagery that has captivated fans of the Philadelphia-based artist, Lukas brings back some of the desolate landscapes he has worked on in the past but now with more detail and cohesive composition. As we mentioned in our preview, Black Rat Projects opened their doors a while back to a pretty impressive collection of the street scene a couple weeks ago. Alex Lukas and Matt Leines are about to show at Guerrero Gallery this weekend, May 8th, and both artists look to be showing some new direction. With Alex we were looking forward to seeing urban environments which are often used to depict a not so distant future where a disaster has overtaken mankind. Streets: EINE in Japan

It looks like UK street artist EINE was over in Japan for a show at Gallery 503 recently. Apparently, he had a lot of time to throw up some pieces in the street, mainly due to getting stranded because of the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. Eine ended up painting 22 shutters and walls, though it looks like he only used the English alphabet for his fans in Tokyo… Take a look at more images after the jump.

Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) held his latest solo show “May Day” at the legendary Deitch Projects in New York City and effectively shut down a small part of SoHo with the crowds he drew at the opening night festivities. It seemed as though anyone and everyone who had an interest in art was in attendance. This Saturday (May 8th, 6-9pm), Williamburg’s Urban Art Projects will host a special event to celebrate the release of Swoon’s first monograph of her work, published by Abrams. She will be signing copies of the self-titled book, which includes essays, images and thoughts, and an introduction by Jeffrey Deitch. Along with the book signing, Swoon is working with Urban Art Projects and a team of engineers and architects to produce a domed sculpture to be exhibited at Urban Art Projects’ inaugural Williamsburg Waterfront Sculpture Exhibition […]
