Streets: London Instagram Roundup

The week started off well for AM with a new piece by street artist Mobstr making an appearance on Bethnel Green Road. This massive white pasteup can be seen from a distance, causing anyone who passes to stop in their tracks. Titled Visual Pollution, the letters have been cut out so the original advert can be seen through. Also, Burning Candy member Dscreet, painted a church with one of his well known owls over the top of an original mural of Jesus. Dscreet’s owl takes on […]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

I have been kindly asked by the nice guys here at AM if I would like to submit a weekly street art article from my Instagram feed. Without hesitation I accepted… For those of you who haven’t heard about Instagram, it’s an app on the iPhone where you can upload and share pictures, so all photos are taken with the iPhone. I mainly focus on the streets of Shoreditch and areas of Hackney, London, taking photographs of new and old streetart. So, here goes, I […]

Openings: Sweet Toof – “Dark Horse” @ Factory Fresh

UK street artist Sweet Toof recently visited New York to show his latest series of indoor works at Brooklyn gallery Factory Fresh. Moving his iconic outdoor “Toofy” characters from the gritty urban arena into a more subtle indoor setting, Sweet Toof focused on creating beautiful oil on canvas paintings. Of course, it wouldn’t be a show if there wasn’t some outdoor art. Sweet also hit up the exteriors along with a vehicle beautification campaign. The show lasts until tomorrow, May 22nd, so check it out if […]

Releases: Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil Prints

Our friends at the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil project have been celebrating the art of the circus poster since late last year, commissioning Cirque-inspired pieces by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, El Mac, Jon Burgerman, Jason Limon, Shag, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson with upcoming works by Tara McPherson, Ron English, Travis Louie and Miss Van. For each city that Cirque du Soleil performs in, Safewalls commissions three artists to create a piece, which is then printed into a regular edition of 300 prints and […]

Showing: Sweet Toof & Shan Hur – ‘Having a Dig’ @ Arch 402 Gallery

AM went to check out Sweet Toof and Shan Hur’s work last week in the two-person exhibition Having a Dig. Arch 402 Gallery was a new name for us, but the location was good, and the brickwork arched space located under an overground railway worked well for this pairing of very different artistic styles. Shan Hur plays with structure and has embedded a series of vintage brass horns into the very walls of the gallery. The archaeological removal on concrete around the instruments was left […]

Streets: Sweet Toof stops the press in London

Looks like Sweet Toof has been re-appropriating an undisclosed number of Metro newspapers in an interventionist culture-jamming caper. Sweet Toof has got his teef into the front, back and centrefold pages of the paper, so check today’s ‘free-press’ at underground tube stations throughout London and try and find a copy for yourself ahead of Sweet Toof’s exhibition opening tonight. Having A Dig opens at Arch 402 Gallery, Cremer Street, London E2 tonight, and runs until 3rd February. Discuss Sweet Toof here.

Preview: Sweet Toof – ‘Having A Dig’ @ Arch 402 Gallery, London

Here’s something to get your gums around… Everyone’s favourite purveyor of eye-candy Sweet Toof, one of the most prolific street artists in London, is bringing a selection of new paintings to London’s Arch 402 Gallery next week. He’s of course a classically trained fine artist, and the Royal Academy trained painter is well versed in working fast and dirty outdoors as the man who over the last couple of years put the ‘candy’ into the Burning Candy crew. Having A Dig brings the more refined […]

Openings: “Beyond the Street” NY Book Launch @ Deitch Projects

Imagine the days of high school where it’s the last week of school before summer hits and everyone is saying their goodbyes while signing each other’s yearbooks. That was the scene as AM attended the last public event at the legendary Deitch Projects and as expected, it was a blast! Set to the background of Shepard Fairey’s intense “May Day” exhibition, the book launch for Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art”, by Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie, drew a veritable […]

“Beyond the Street” NY book launch @ Deitch Projects

AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. The level of support for the book came over extremely positively in the number of people that attended the event. Now, New York gets it’s turn as the stateside launch party is to be held next Thursday 27th May at Deitch Projects. Bring your copy of the book along or grab a copy at a discounted rate at […]
