Preview: JR – “The Wrinkles Of The City” (Cuba)

After blessing some walls in Los Angeles with his photographic touch along with giving another TED talk, JR (featured) headed over to Cuba for the next phase of his ongoing The Wrinkles Of The City project. While there, the French street artist documented the people and their culture, enjoying the hospitality of the locals on the island where life seems frozen in time. It looks like JR was accompanied by another AM favorite, Jose Parla, where they are working on a collaborative project together. JR is […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part V

During the past week, JR (featured) has been hitting the L.A. streets with his signature photographs while at the same time continuing his “Wrinkles In The City” campaign (covered here, here, here and here). Organized by Daniel Salin, this recent JR tour ended with three murals put up by the French photographer around different parts of the Downtown Los Angeles district. The pieces were placed high above the streets but they could be seen from a distance and from different directions. Here we have a shots […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part IV

Continuing to follow JR (featured) across Los Angeles in this early part of 2012 (covered here, here, and here), we now have images of his fourth mural in L.A. which features, for the first time, a portrait shot of not just one person, but rather a couple. Here we have photos of the entire process from beginning to end, as well as a closer look at JR behind the camera and at his diligent crew who have so far made this go around a memorable one. […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part III

As we continue to cover JR‘s current tour across the city of Angels, (here and here), we now have a new look at the latest mural put up by the French artist. Sitting in the heart of downtown, this mural was begun early Saturday morning and finished by the early afternoon. As usual, this is a can’t miss mural that almost feels like it’s staring back at you. Here we have exclusive pics and a closer look at the finished piece. More photos after the […]

More after the jump…

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part I

It’s been almost a year since French street artist, photographer, and TED Prize winner JR arrived in Los Angeles for his Wrinkles in the City campaign (covered here, here, & here). Well, now he’s returned to L.A. for another tour which will once again show why he’s one of the most important and unique artists working on the streets today. His first task for this new go around was to cover a building that sits near the intersections of Beverly and Sweetzer. As in previous work, […]

Videos: JR – “The Wrinkles Of The City – Los Angeles”

If you recall, there was a period of time in early 2011 when street photograffeur JR was in Los Angeles pasting up his signature large-scale photos (here, here, & here) all over the city. Coinciding nicely with his acceptance speech for the TED Prize where he unveiled his INSIDE OUT initiative, the series of 20 or so walls were part of his The Wrinkles In The City project that he has put op in various locales all around the world. Now, comes a video that shows some of […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part III

Apparently, TED prize winner JR is still in Los Angeles working on his massive The Wrinkles of the City project. We thought he had finished the series of walls (see Venice &  Melrose) and left town after his TED acceptance speech, but now we see a new piece is up on the side of the Sushi Roku in West Hollywood.  The French street photographer must have taken a break to enjoy his part of the Art in the Street exhibition. Take a look at another pic […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part II

As we reported earlier, French street activist and photographer JR is continuing his assault on the walls of LA since starting with a mural in Venice last week.  LA weekly is following his progress in bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” to Socal on their website (map) and this is the latest piece at Barracuda in Melrose. This newest project will lead in nicely to the TED Prize award show on March 2 (live streaming) where he will reveal his “wish.” Discuss JR here.

Streets: JR (Venice, CA)

It looks like street photographer JR is back in Southern California after Eurotrash took over the Lazarides pop-up gallery last July. If you remember, as an adjunct for that show, he worked on a sweet collaboration with Vhils in downtown LA.  This time, the French street activist will be bringing his “The Wrinkles of the City” project over to the States after it’s original start in Shanghai.  Here is a piece he put up in Venice, the first in a series of twenty large-scale photos […]
