Streets: Asphalte Festival (Belgium)

The city of Charleroi in Belgium was the host for the first edition of the Asphalte Urban Art Biennial. Taking place from the beginning of May till the end of October, this event includes theatrical programming, dance and academic programs, concerts, as well as urban and street art projects. After featuring his works in a couple of group shows over the years, Galeria Patricia Armocide recently opened a solo from Todd James. Entitled Secret Garden the show includes seven large-scale acrylic on canvas paintings and eight medium and small-scale gouache on paper paintings, and will stay on view until the 1st of August. Recap: Todd James – “Supernatural” @ Sandra Gering

Earlier this spring New York artist Todd “REAS” James returned to Sandra Gering for his third showing with the gallery. Entitled Supernatural this fresh body of work sees the artist going in another direction, Todd features his women: a colorful cast of warriors, sunbathers, sorcerers and girlfriends that have populated his work from the earliest years. The compositions serve as emotional touchstones in a narrative with both comedy & tragedy. Check out a look below.

Earlier this month, Todd “REAS” James opened a showing in Toronto at the Cooper Cole Gallery entitled Splash Damage. Included in the work on display are his familiar pirate paintings as well as some loose still lifes of women and their cats rendered in the American artist’s cartoonish style. for those in town, the exhibition runs through December 7th so stop by for a look yourself. Tomorrow (November 23, 3-9pm) in New York, Todd James will be releasing a zine at The Newsstand in Brooklyn (inside the Metropolitan Ave.-Lorimer St. stop on the G and L trains). Those attending the event will see a Sword & Sorcery themed installation based on the dungeons and dragons type pieces he has been posting onto his Instagram (some more of which are seen below) recently.
