Astute fans may have noticed that Todd James’ new exhibition opening this week in New York is being sponsored in part by VistaJet & Bombardier Aerospace, the same people behind a series of shows by RETNA in the past (covered here & here). At that time, you may also recall that RETNA painted the tail of one of Vistajet’s private charter planes (video here). Earlier this week, we shared some photos of the paintings from the current Todd James (aka REAS) exhibition, Free To be You & Me, at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Along with these works, the NY-based artist also created an installation of what he imagines to be the Vandal’s Bedroom , chock full of drawings and other ephemera that very well could represent James’ bedroom at one point in time. Fans of the New York-based Todd James will be able to greet their hometown hero 6-8 pm on Thursday night (September 20th) at The Standard in New York where he will be releasing his new book – Yield to Temptation. The NYC legend, otherwise known as REAS, will have original candy sculptures on view as well as will be available to sign the new publication, which includes images of 60 of his drawings featuring his cartoon-like graffiti style, all created exclusively for the volume. Last Thursday night, Todd James (aka REAS) unveiled a new body of works at New York’s Gering & Lopez. Entitled King of the Wild Frontier, this series takes another step forward from his previous showing with the gallery. Returning to NY for a showing at Gering & López, site of his show in early 2010, Street Market alumni Todd James will be presenting a whole new body of work on March 1st. King of the Wild Frontier will no doubt feature the artist otherwise known as REAS’ signature colorful and sardonic takes on various topics including perhaps politics and war. Last week, AM attended the group exhibition curated by KAWS and Erik Parker, a unique project hosted by Paul Kasmin Gallery. The show Pretty on the Inside (teased) included works from seven American artists – Todd James, Tony Matelli, Joyce Pensato, Peter Saul, Karl Wirsum and of course, the two curators. This morning, the Los Angeles MOCA lifted the veil of secrecy on its highly anticipated “Art in the Streets” exhibition. Just hours ago, Todd “REAS” James’ show at Galeria Javier López opened it’s doors to the “Great Adventure”. It turns out, the adventure was a tongue-in-cheek way of referring to wars and the associated atrocities that come with it. Much like his show earlier this year in NY at Gering & López (covered), James’ cartoonish portrayal of the machinations of war include smiling tanks shooting out blood, funny-faced missiles romping around, nude female soldiers frolicking around in the mayhem, and much more. On Wednesday, Todd James aka REAS’ will be opening his first solo show in Madrid at Galeria Javier López. Judging from the show card and sneak peeks, the work will be a continuation of his last solo earlier this year in New York at Gering & López.
