The New York-based Todd James a.k.a. REAS, is showing his new works at London’s Lazarides. The exhibition entitled Fantasy Island explores the grotesque of socio-political news we receive, between images of war, somali pirates, UN soldiers and scantily-clad females posing on the cover of fashion magazines. Using vibrant colours, the American artist’s paintings feature an army of multicolored AK47, armed soldiers balancing cup of teas in armchairs, while his oversexualised blonde female portraits are reminiscent of Wesselman. Showing: Todd James – “Splash Damage” @ Cooper Cole Gallery

Earlier this month, Todd “REAS” James opened a showing in Toronto at the Cooper Cole Gallery entitled Splash Damage. Included in the work on display are his familiar pirate paintings as well as some loose still lifes of women and their cats rendered in the American artist’s cartoonish style. for those in town, the exhibition runs through December 7th so stop by for a look yourself. Upcoming: Todd “REAS” James – “Swords & Sorcery” @ The Newsstand

Tomorrow (November 23, 3-9pm) in New York, Todd James will be releasing a zine at The Newsstand in Brooklyn (inside the Metropolitan Ave.-Lorimer St. stop on the G and L trains). Those attending the event will see a Sword & Sorcery themed installation based on the dungeons and dragons type pieces he has been posting onto his Instagram (some more of which are seen below) recently.
