Marina Abramovic Kickstarter

It looks like Marina Abramovic is the latest creative to turn to Kickstarter to fund a project or idea. What she wants to accomplish is quite ambitious as the New York-based Serbian performance artist hopes to create an institute that will serve as her legacy and homage to time-based and immaterial art – the epnonymously named Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI). Of course, with the estimated $20 million needed to realize her dream, the $600,000 goal for this Kickstarter will only go toward the first phase of MAI’s development […]

Videos: John Knuth – “Fly Paintings” for MOCAtv

MOCAtv recently released a video detailing the novel work of John Knuth and his little “assistants.” By feeding pigments to the over 250,000 common houseflies that were used in this new series of paintings, Knuth is able to create his artwork from the regurgitations over the canvases that form the insects’ environment. Portland based artist Zach Johnsen is busy preparing for his upcoming exhibition entitled The House of Uncommons. The body of work created for the show explores an alternate parliamentary governing system comprised of spirit figures existing outside the periphery of mankind. Each painting depicts a figure within this fantasy system of rules with its own unique title, identity and powers of legislation. Johnsen’s dynamic paintings have pretty much always been executed on paper, but his new work for the exhibition is comprised entirely of paintings on wooden panels. […]
