Videos: Allison Schulnik – “Mound”

Some of you may remember – a little while back, we posted this great video from Allison Schulnik on our facebook page. Seeing her deliciously thick and textured paintings at the Mark Moore booth (more on this later) at PULSE during Art Basel Week reminded us to share Mound with our readers here as well. Schulnik actually went to CalArts to specifically study experimental animation and her excellent technique certainly shows. Discuss Allison Schulnik here.

Videos: Aaron Horkey x Mondo x Moon Editions – “True Grit” Print

Aaron Horkey fans out there, check out this new video put together by our friend Patrick Kawahara of a new limited edition dropping tomorrow (December 2nd) at a random time at Mondo. True Grit, produced by Moon Editions, is a laser engraved on Latvian Birch (dyed and laquered), in an edition of 33, 14.75″ x 36″ and will cost $450.

Basel Week Miami ’11: Marco Brambilla x Ferrari “RPM” Video Party

As promised, here are photos from the Ferrari x Marco Brambilla’s party that we attended earlier this week at Art Basel Week Miami. The centerpiece was the collaborative 3-D video installation from Brambilla entitled RPM (see the video here) that entertained guests from the worlds of art, fashion, design and music. Streets / Videos: VIK @ Paper Box

Our friends at Stink Grenade gives us a unique look at the female graffiti artist VIK in the footage above. Residing in Brooklyn and hailing from Warsaw, Poland, VIK is one of those rare female graffiti writers that works the streets of New York. In this video, we catch her working on the gates of the upcoming space for Paper Box in Brooklyn. Using her bright signature writing style she shows us how she gets up in the video.

We mentioned this a couple weeks ago, but now is a good time for a reminder to make your way down to Black Rat Projects on December 1st for the unveiling of Swoon’s (interviewed) newest showing. Entitled Mumuration, the project has taken the Brooklyn-based artist three long weeks to create, transforming the gallery into an immersive installation featuring her signature intricate and elaborate paper cuts and sculptural shapings. Openings: JR – “Encrages” @ Galerie Perrotin

Last week, Galerie Perrotin paid host to French photographer and street artist JR in their Paris showspace when he displayed a new body of work entitled Encrages. Featuring his outdoor technique translated onto smaller found objects, the exhibition brought together many of the TED prize winner’s previous projects as we talked about in our studio visit leading up to the show. Basel Week Miami ’11 / Videos: COPE2 – “Rise to the Occasion” Preview

Another show to check out while in Miami for this year’s Art Basel Week is a new solo from COPE2, who we recently saw in New York & Amsterdam. Still on a prolific pace, the wildstyle legend from the Bronx will be bringing a new body of work entitled Rise to the Occasion to the Wynwood Arts District (167 NW25th Street) for a show opening on December 1st and running to the 4th. Video: Raymond Pettibon x Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Monarchy of Roses” Music Video

Two legends of the Los Angeles music and art scene: the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Raymond Pettibon (who is a musician in his own right and the brother of Greg Ginn – the founder of Black Flag) come together in this music video made on occasion of the band’s new record. Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the video features the artist’s highly recognizable drawings.  If you’ve ever wondered how Pettibon’s work would look animated, stop imagining and start watching.
