Streets / Video : Mear One in Los Angeles

Mear One just finished up a brand new mural on Glendale Blvd. in Los Angeles. Building on themes typical of his work, and set in one of his expansive allegorical landscapes signature to his style, the piece depicts a young girl on the street huddled under a blanket, while surrounded by an oil field in a toxic wasteland. “It’s about innocence that’s been lost and how the world has ruined the future of its children and left them stranded in a cold barren and destroyed […]

Streets / Video: Vhils x Orelha Negra – M.I.R.I.A.M.

Looks like Vhils went all Cai Guo-Qiang on us with this new explosive video collaboration with Orelha Negra. The Lisbon-based artist appears to have increased his already versatile bag of tricks to get his works up on the walls for this music video for M.I.R.I.A.M. from the Portuguese instrumental hip-hip band. In a world where street art is expected to be temporary, with his techniques, Vhils is making his mark and making it damn near permanent. Take a look at some photos of the work […]

Video: Greg Simkins’ mural @ Mid-City Arts

Recently, Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) spent some time at Mid-City Arts in Los Angeles working on a mural. Take a look at this timelapse footage as he painted some of his classic imagery including the pedestal, cloud, honeycomb, and elephant. His next project is curating the INLE group show (lineup) at Gallery 1988, an ode to his favorite book Watership Down and source for much of the symbology in his work. Video and more pics at Juxtapoz. Discuss Greg “Craola” Simkins here.

With a show filled with such plethora of strong and iconic works from an A-list of artists, Suggestivism definitely deserves a second look. If our coverage of the opening didn’t encourage you to see the exhibition in person, perhaps this video from Hurley featuring some footage of the art as well as an interview with curator and artist Nathan Spoor will convince you to head over to the Grand Central Art Center before April 17th, the close date. Videos: Dan Witz – “What the %$#@? (WTF)” @ White Walls

A show that closed recently in San Francisco at White Walls, What the %$#@? (WTF) featured the acronym inspiring work of Dan Witz. The ongoing series of works consisted of his photorealistic renderings of people trapped behind grills, bars, and windows.  This new video has some nice footage of him getting his provocative work up as well as him talking a little about the philosophy behind his art. Via Vandalog. Discuss Dan Witz here.
