Studio Visits: Brandi Milne

With Brandi Milne’s solo Once Upon a Quiet Kingdom opening soon (August 19th) at Corey Helford Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles, now is a good time to bring you some shots from her studio. Showing: Rone – “The Omega Project” (Melbourne)

Recently in his hometown of Melbourne, Rone created a unique installation lasting only a few weeks at an abandoned 1900s weatherboard cottage. Entitled The Omega Project, the temporary showcase in the condemned house features the Australian street artist’s signature portraiture on the walls and interiors decorated by set designer Carly Spooner. Kickstarter: Luke Chueh – “Grief Encounters” Animated Series

Luke Chueh (interviewed) has recently started a Kickstarter with Munky King to create one minute shorts of some of his most iconic paintings. With the expertise of Tiny Giants, the Los Angeles-based artist’s world will expand as stories can be told centered around how his characters ended up in the situations they did (see an example below of his Target painting). Recap: Askew One for Galartis x MyFinBec

On June 15th & 16th, Askew One visited Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in a project organized by Galartis auction house and the MyFinBec creative platform. During those two days, the New Zealand-based artist painted a 3 x 2 meter mural on 84 wood wine cases at the showroom for the street art auction that took place June 22. Continuing his long time collaboration with Prada, James Jean (interviewed) has followed up his recent work on their 2018 Resort Collection (covered) with work on their SS 2018 Collection. Streets: Cinta Vidal / RAD Napa Project

Following recent works from Felipe Pantone (covered) and Natalia Rak (covered), Cinta Vidal has just completed her contribution to the RAD Napa project (curated by Thinkspace and sponsored by The Napa Valley Wine Train). The piece from the Spanish artist featured some of the architectural imagery and play with perspective that she has become known for. Fashion: James Jean x Prada 2018 Resort Collection

Following up on his work with Prada in 2008 and other projects through the years, James Jean (interviewed) has collaborated with the Italian fashion house on part of their 2018 resort collection. Staged for the first time at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio in Milan, the runway show featured the illustrator and visual artist’s imagery prominently on parkas, a pantsuit, dresses as well as many of the handbags. Just released (May 5) in limited New York theaters is BURDEN, a feature-length documentary on Chris Burden. The film, by Timothy Marrinan & Richard Dewey, provides an overview of the artist’s fascinating and controversial life through archival and original footage. It follows his career from architect, to sculptor, to legendary performance artist, and beyond. Streets: Kenny Scharf (Los Angeles)

Recently in Culver City, California, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) was able to paint some of his signature characters on the sides of a building overlaid over a colorful background of drips. It looks like while there, he also took time to continue his series of what he calls Karbombz where he paints the outside of a lucky fan’s automobile.
