Showing: “Spectrum” @ Mallick Williams & Co.

Following-up on Hueless (covered), which consisted of all black and white art, Chelsea’s Mallick Williams & Co. recently opened a new exhibition entitled Spectrum, which is aptly named not only because of its array of vibrantly colorful works, but also because the group show features a wide range of contemporary painters, including Chor Boogie, Lu Gold, Kiji McCafferty, Erik Otto and Kate Pane. McCafferty, one of the standouts of the show, himself exemplifies the theme of variety: an emerging artist of Japanese and Irish descent […]

Openings / Streets: FAME Festival 2010

For the last two years, there’s only one place even the most half-hearted of street art fan should be in September and that’s the picturesque town of Grottaglie, in the foot of Italy, and this year is no exception as the town again provides the canvas for curator Angelo Milano’s FAME Festival. As with previous years, Angelo has invited a stylistically and geographically diverse selection of renowned and, at least for now, less recognized artists to decorate the walls of his hometown as they see […]

Fame Fest ’10: Word to Mother

When we referred to a look at Word to Mother (interviewed) studio several days ago, we mentioned he was in Italy working on his efforts for the Fame Festival. Well, here is a look now at the murals he put up while in Grottaglie. He also found time to work on an installation for the gallery show and some hand finished (with watercolor) screenprints. More pics after the jump…

Word to Mother in Studio

It looks like fashion photographer and art enthusiast Viktor Vauthier has visited the studio of Word to Mother (interviewed) to take some photos for an article on the p.o.p. The London-based artist talks about his upcoming show with StolenSpace in October as well as his involvement with the FAME Festival which we have been following here. More photos after the jump…

Video: Word to Mother

You may remember Word to Mother’s (interviewed) show at StolenSpace Gallery (covered) earlier this year.  Now comes a video from Andrew Telling at around that time period that gives us insight into young London-based artist’s creative process and workspace. Discuss Word to Mother here.

FAME Festival – A Tour Through the Monastery

After months of following the goings on at Italy’s FAME Fest (see our coverage here), AM decided to take a trip to Grottaglie to find out if all those pieces were really as incredible as they appeared. Let’s just say that we were far from disappointed. From the murals painted within the ancient monastery and on the walls around town to the fantastic private preview dinner and packed opening night reception showcasing work from all the artists, FAME is every street art fan’s dream come true. […]

FAME Festival: Ericailcane and Word to Mother (Part II)

We recently brought you news of Ericailcane (here) and Word to Mother (here) painting murals at FAME Festival (full coverage here). The artists have since stepped into the studio to create a fantastic selection of artwork. We are loving these little ceramic sculptures by Ericailcane (above). For everyone who gets excited when Erica’s anthropomorphic creatures leap into the three-dimensional, now is the time to start jumping up and down, as there look to be quite a few little monkeys running around Grottaglie. Word To Mother […]

FAME Festival – Word to Mother

UK’s Word to Mother (interviewed) has just finished a lovely mural at FAME Festival (our coverage here). Word’s soft colors and sketched lines fit really well into the environment the artists have been working in. This piece forms a nice continuation to his solo exhibition, “Young Mind, Old Soul,” at Fifty24SF (covered) earlier in the year. See a more detailed shot of the figure to the right after the jump.

Video: Word to Mother, Hera, & Chris Stain @ Nuart 2008

Our friend Ian Cox, whose photos we referenced for our preview of this year’s Nuart Festival, also recently put together a time-lapse video of Word to Mother (interviewed) putting up a piece from Nuart 2008. In the video, you can also see a nice Hera (interviewed) piece on the left. Check out the time-lapse video for the Hera piece as well as a Chris Stain (interviewed) video after the jump…
