Tonight at the 297 Tenth Avenue location of Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, Erik Parker’s exhibition entitled Undertow will be open its doors to the public. For his third solo with the Chelsea showspace, the locally based artist has prepared works rendered with a highly saturated palette that continue to explore the world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes. As you can see from the preview images below, he will also be introducing some shaped canvases that add an extra narrative to his imagery.
Another strong satellite fair seen during this year’s Basel Week Miami was certainly Untitled. Showing a diverse selection of contemporary works, the roster included 119 international galleries, not-for-profit exhibition spaces and institutions from over 20 countries. For the Autumn/Winter 2015 season, Max Mara has collaborated with artist Maya Hayuk on three different styles of sunglasses featuring a pattern she has dubbed Optiprism. The multicolored rainbow graphics utilized for this project mirror the works from the New York-based artist that fit well both in the gallery as well as on the streets. As we continue our look at the prolific street activity centered around the Wynwood District during Basel Week Miami, the next mural that caught our eyes is the collaborative effort between Li-Hill (interviewed) and James Bullough. Taking advantage of how well Li-Hill’s kinetic imagery and Bullough’s glitch-like style mesh together, its creation was timed to coincide with the COP21 Paris Climate Conference. On the 10th of December, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show by Czech artist Jan Kalab (interviewed). Tension will include a new series of his recognizable round canvases as well as a large sculpture following along the lines of his circle inspired works. After a solo last month in Japan (covered), Usugrow followed it up by opening an exhibition in Taipei while there for POW! WOW! Taiwan. The showing presented by Remix ＆ G-SHOCK at the Woolloomooloo Xhibit space featured the Japanese artist’s characteristic mix of urban calligraphy & Los Angeles “cholo” subculture.
