Zachari Logan’s work has been seen here and there at Roq La Rue for a few years now, but Grotesques is his first solo show at the Seattle gallery. Using colored pencil and pastels, Logan blends plants and animals to create mutated hybrids of familiar species. While the delicate pencil and mylar pieces are framed, two of the pastel paintings are shown simply pinned to the wall. On November 20th, Steve “ESPO” Powers (featured) will be unveiling a site-specific installation for the Brooklyn Museum that he’s calling Coney Island Is Still Dreamland (To a Seagull). The immersive environment will transform the Iris and B. Tonight in New York, Aurel Schmidt will be opening a new solo show at Half Gallery from 6-8pm. Blast Furnace of Civilization is the latest installment for the American artist’s ongoing series of works exploring the madness of capitalism. Last month, Borondo painted a new mural in his native country of Spain for this year’s Open Walls Conference. Situated in Barcelona, the piece entitled Fer Llenya has local significance as it references castells, human towers built traditionally in festivals at many locations within Catalonia.
