After a recent set of murals realized in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, and Johannesburg, the tour concluded in Toronto for Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew. Some of the main pieces were created at the The Gladstone Hotel & Tattoo if you are local and want to hunt these down. Last week, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened a solo at the Hellion Gallery in Portland entitled Rainy Day with a Chance of Sun. After a studio visit with Carl Krull, it was gratifying to see his new works displayed on the walls of V1 Gallery last week. Creating his imagery through a pattern of repetitive lines, the fresh pieces were collectively entitled Seismic and sometimes formed faces almost looking like pin art or other more complex compositions. Before leaving Los Angeles, UK native D*Face (interviewed) decided to create one more mural for his fans to add to the piece (covered) on the side of the building that that housed his popup show (covered). Mirroring one of the originals that was featured in his exhibition, the new image shows one of his characters looking into the rear-view mirror as he’s driving down a lonely stretch of road. After a recent landmark showcase at Harbour City in Hong Kong (covered), Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) headed to Melbourne for his next project. We had the chance to visit Jonas Lund’s Studio Practice project at Boetzelaer|Nispen in Amsterdam on the last day of the production process. By now, the “white cube” gallery space got a full art studio makeover with paint marks and scars of art making on every wall and surface. The works produced are scattered around the space, some hanging as the accepted ones, some marked as denied, and some still waiting for evaluation by the advisory board members. In between setting up for his popup show in New York (more on this later), Conor Harrington (interviewed) took advantage of the hospitality from the L.I.S.A.
