Expanding on and showing a series last seen during a show in Tokyo last year, the luminous works of Fuco Ueda will be making a rare appearance in the Los Angeles area. Last month, AM paid a visit to the Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea to enjoy new works from Tomoo Gokita. Showing through this weekend at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City is VERSO, a new solo show from Joao Ruas. The Brazilian artist presented a diverse set of works including his largest work to date (seen above), a wall mural & installation, etchings, polaroids, backlit pieces, and more utilizing mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, pen, pencil, and gouache. Australian graffiti couple, Dabs Myla, teamed up with their New Zealand friend, Misery, for a big mural collaboration at POW! WOW! Hawaii this year. With all the artists usually painting cheerful characters and cartoonish designs, this joint effort resulted in an explosion of cuteness in Kaka’ako, an industrial neighbourhood of Honolulu.
