It looks like KAWS is set up to open his newest solo show, “Pay the Debt to Nature”, this Saturday night at the Parisian branch of the Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery. Along with his continued exploration of his “double x” pop abstracts, you can expect more of his large-scale sculptural works as well, although not as large as the piece in Hong Kong. One of the main reasons AM traveled to London this year was to catch the premiere of the Moniker Art Fair. The opening night was packed from the moment the doors were lifted with what seemed to be everyone we knew in the scene in attendance. On November 6th, Subliminal Projects will be opening a new show “Pattern Recognition”. The premise behind the title is that each artist included has in some way produced work that consists of reoccuring events or objects, not just in a literal sense though. One of the highlights of our Frieze visit was stumbling upon the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth. As an unexpected surprise to us, the entire booth had been dedicated to an installation of David Shrigley’s work. Coinciding with his show at Ratio 3, Dashwood Books is releasing a book based on Ryan McGinley’s “Life Adjustment Center” (covered) exhibition. The book will ship Nov 8, but you can pre-order yours today. It is $45, hardcover, 7″ x 9.5″, and an edition of 3,000. One of the most gifted artists we know that works mainly graphite, Laurie Lipton, will be presenting a mostly new body of work this Friday night at the venerable La Luz de Jesus. Entitled “Machine Punk”, many of the new works are inspired by the steampunk movement and her apparent fascination for complex machinery.
