It appears Swoon wasn’t the only artist in Venice recently. Shepard Fairey and his boys were also spotted spending a few weeks to “restore Venice.” The purpose of their visit wasn’t to vacation in the grand canals of Venice, but to create works for the SMS Venice Foundation. The works were donated by Shepard to promote the preservation of artistic and architectural heritage of the historic city of Venice. More after the jump.

Last time we interviewed Swoon, she was getting ready to set sail on her latest journey (The Swimming Cities of Serenissima) to Venice with her hand crafted fleet of ships. Israeli street artist Know Hope’s Los Angeles solo debut “the times won’t save you (this rain smells of memory)” (previewed) opened to a packed house at the Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were in awe with his intricate gallery installation echoing the theme of the show, which was comprised of cardboard buildings, his signature characters, paper raindrops and fishing twine. In case you missed their first print with Mark Ryden, Roq La Rue just announced a second charitable print they did with Camille Rose Garcia. Again this is to raise money for David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust so every penny of this amazing print is going towards this great charity which helps endangered elephants and rhinos in Africa. Chicago-based artist Dzine was nice enough to send over images from his latest solo show, “Love & Loyalty,” which opened last week at South Korea’s Leeahn Gallery. From the look of the photos, there’s no wonder why the entire show sold-out before the opening. Last weekend, Culver City hosted their ARTWALK 2009 event with over thirty galleries throughout the area participating. Thinkspace Gallery, located in the Silver Lake district, got in on the action as well, opening a one day pop-up gallery on Washington Blvd. Fans packed the rear gallery area throughout the day to see the live-painting demonstration by Asylm, Anthony Clarkson, Mear One, Michael Alvarez, Michael Pukac, Nathan DeYoung and Zoso.
