Headed out to Palm Springs last night to attend the opening of Matt Dangler’s “Out From the Whirlwind” (previewed) and Yumiko Kayukawa’s “The Last 34” (previewed).  Matt’s paintings looked to be getting more detailed with this body of work.  He also spent time explaining some of the symbolism and geometry behind each piece leaving us impressed with the amount of planning and thought he gave to each painting.  Yumiko’s show highlighted many of the endangered species around the world including polar bears, elephants and leopards.  In particular, the piece seen below is where the show title came from – there are only 34 remaining Amur Leopards in Russia in part because their habitat is being destroyed – hence “The Last 34.”

More photos after the jump.
