American artist Mark Jenkins opened his second solo with Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne on Friday night. On Friday, 4th of April, Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome opened the first Italian solo show by Aakash Nihalani. Famous for his street installations and works that play with geometry, perspective and optical illusion, the NYC-based artist created a whole new body of work for this show. After seeding the city of Cologne last year with some of his sculptural urban interventions for the CityLeaks Festival, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) has returned for a solo show at Ruttkowski;68. One of the unique aspect of the Armory Art Show during Armory Week is the fact that it’s spread out over two piers (92 & 94) on the west side of Manhattan Island with each pier themed differently. Coming up on May 17th, Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles will host a new showing from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). From this teaser image, some of the flowers customized with his signature facial features that we have seen here and there will be presented in abundant quantities. Taking inspiration from his job during college was delivering bouquets of flowers in Santa Barbara, the whimsical pieces will be part of no doubt a larger selection of his further explorations into sculpture. KAWS aka Brian Donnelly just opened his big European museum exhibition, curated by Fernando Francés, at CAC Malaga. On April 16th, the ICA in London will be presenting the first solo exhibition in the UK from the transcendent Tauba Auerbach. Entitled The New Ambidextrous Universe, the show will feature a diverse selection of works from the versatile artist including sculpture, photography, painting, weaving and book design. In particular, we are interested in her newly created works that “take as their starting point the scientific principles of symmetry and reflection as a means to hint at an alternate, mirror universe.” Discuss Tauba Auerbach here.
