Openings: Swoon & Ben Wolf – “Squinches and Pendentives” @ Urban Art Info

Fresh off their stint from Norway at this year Nuart Festival (covered), Swoon (Interviewed) and Ben Wolf stopped off in Berlin for a show at Urban Art Info Gallery. The show “Squinches and Pendentives” was held in UAI’s large gallery space which allowed the artists to really showcase their styles. The space allowed Ben to build his impressive and self reflective installations/sculptures. Swoon also did her part and effortlessly integrated her always touching figures into Ben’s complex urban-themed installation. It was a fun night as […]

Openings: Angelika Trojnarski – “After the Gold Rush” @ Kinsey/Desforges

We stopped by the Kinsey/Desforges Gallery in Culver City a couple weeks ago on a night of chock full of openings. On the walls were new works from Angelika Trojnarski, a Polish contemporary artist, back for her second show with the gallery. Entitled “After the Gold Rush,” the show featured paintings and abstract structures as well as sculptural representations of deconstructed buildings made from found materials. Check out all the pics after the jump.

Openings: C215 @ Galerie Pierre Cardin

Prolific French street artist C215 (Christian Guémy) recently opened a show at Galerie Pierre Cardin in Paris, returning to his roots after showing in the UK at the Signal Gallery (covered) and at a special collaborative project at the old Bridewell Police Station. Included in the exhibition are his signature stencils featuring portraiture of people of the streets – the homeless, beggars, orphans, animals, and victims of neglect.  The body of work includes pieces on wood, paper, and found objects and conveyed a versatility of […]

Openings: POW Shop Opens Its Doors

Pictures On Walls (POW) opened a new shop-cum-gallery in London last week and AM dropped in to take a look around at what goodies might be on offer. Rather than being just a print shop, we were pleasantly surprised to find some real gems of hand worked prints plus original works for sale by some of our favourites; including a Banksy canvas, a huge Stephen Powers piece on acrylic, original work from Kill Pixie and Blu plus a fantastic collection of work from the prolific […]

Openings: Antony Micallef – “Becoming Animal” @ Lazarides

It’s not that often that you feel completely blown away when you walk into a gallery, but that was the feeling AM experienced when we first walked into Lazarides (Rathbone Place) at the opening of Antony Micallef’s epic solo show, “Becoming Animal.” We’d been anticipating this show since well before we interviewed Antony (read that here) a couple of weeks back, and hearing him talk about his motivations behind the show only whet our appetite even more. He told us that this show was all about him […]

Openings: Camilla d’Errico & Caia Koopman – “Vain Remains”

Camilla d’Errico and Caia Koopman recently opened their joint show “Vain Remains” to a very vibrant Silver Lake crowd at Thinkspace Gallery. Both artist showed some strong yet feminine paintings to the pleasure of many that attended. We caught some of their peers such as London Police and Buff Monster (featured) hanging out at the always crowded TS openings. Check out all the opening night pics after the jump.

Openings: Futura – “Odyssey Two” @ Art Forum Berlin

Fresh off successful shows in Los Angeles and Dubai, Futura returns with Odyssey Two, an exhibition of new works, as well as key pieces from as far as 20 years back in his fabled career.  He’s found another spot in the globe to conquer and it’s Berlin.  Fans will be able to see significant works, such as the original Pointman canvas, as well as early Pointman sketches, and early abstract pieces, right next to his most recent works.  Think of it as a retrospective and […]

Openings: Faile – “Law of Fives” Group Show @ Perry Rubenstein

Last night, AM visited Perry Rubenstein gallery for their 5 year anniversary show – “The Law of Fives.” This group show featured the works of FAILE (which we will focus on), but the exhibition also includes Zilla Leutenegger, Teresa Margolles, Robin Rhode and Richard Woods. Faile created an impressive installation utilizing their signature “Boxes” to go along with the 4 other featured artists. But, the exclusive stuff was behind the scenes where our friend Rob from The Most Beautifullest Thing got a little sneak peak at some future works from the […]

Openings: Anthony Lister – “And Then The Wind Changed” @ New Image Art

AM stopped by briefly at New Image Art out on Santa Monica Blvd amidst a busy art weekend to check out the Anthony Lister (interviewed) show.  Lister was in town last week to open his new LA solo show, “And Then The Wind Changed” featuring medium and large paintings as well as some installations. Check out additional pics of the works in the show and more after the jump.

Openings: The London Police – “Brothers in Arms” @ Carmichael Gallery

The London Police opened a huge show last week in Los Angeles at the Carmichael Gallery located out on La Brea. The art lovers of LA came out in strong numbers to support the show and to catch the premiere of the Ashton Kutcher produced “Brothers In Arms” short film (teased) that chronicled 5 days of the TLP being handcuffed together during the final touches of their show. The flim is hilarious and came out so good. Thanks to NOMAD (who’s still in town after his […]
