Openings: Lola @ Corey Helford

Lola’s show “The Wondermental” (previewed) opened last Saturday at Corey Helford Gallery. Her paintings looked even more amazing when intricately framed. You just don’t appreciate the size of some of them until you see them in scale. More photos after the jump.

With the DJ spinning and the hipsters of Williamsburg crowded about on Friday night, Ad Hoc Art opened their new show “In Language of Angels”. The six artist show was a nice compliment to the diverse Brooklyn crowd. Seen in the exhibit were: the Manga-esqe Camilla dâ€™Errico, the bold Lisa Alisa, the entrancing Sarah Joncas, the embroidery laced layouts of Simone Maynard, the digitally detailed Mijn Schatje, and the dynamic illustrations of MIA. Any sneakerheads out there will recognize Dave White’s oil paintings immediately.Â Perhaps generously described as the “Warhol of our generation” and well-known to the mainstream because his corporate collaborations with the likes of Nike & Coca Cola, it was actually his sneaker portraits that first attracted our attention.Â He has since moved on to other subjects such as Super Cars, Star Wars, and more recently Superhero paintings. Opening: Shepard Fairey Weekend in DC

Shepard Fairey’s weekend in DC was very fruitful. He unveiled a new image:Â “VOTE“Â for Barack Obamaâ€™s Campaign, held aÂ dialogue at the Corcoran Museum, and showed at the Irvine Contemporary. Opening: Dain, Various & Gould @ Brooklynite

Last night, AM visted Bed-Stuy vanguard Brooklynite Gallery for the opening of Time Machine, featuring work by artists Dain (Brooklyn) and Various and Gould (Berlin). Dain’s offerings consisted of his characteristic colorful images of 1920’s glamour girls. Although similar to his posters wheatpasted throughout NYC, the gallery work is more ellaborate than previously seen, with more layering and detail. Openings: Tim Biskup @ Addict Galerie

Last Saturday, Tim Biskupâ€™s show â€œO/S (Operating System)â€ opened at Addict Galerie in Paris (previously posted). Although no stranger to international travel, he appeared to be excited to be exhibiting in France when we talked to him at Baby Tattooville. The works turned out pretty amazing… continuing his “pixelated” style and pairing each painting with a custom pedestal. Priced at $6500-$15,500, we believe some of these are still available for purchase. Check out all the photos after the jump.

We were wondering what the large wooden installation (previously posted) was that Ai Yamaguchi was working on for her Roberts & Tilton show. Well, the photo you see above is the mural inside which could only be accessed by climbing in the structure (“shoelessly” we might add). More photos of the opening after the jump.

Travis Louie & Kris Kuksi’s show opened up last Saturday in San Fransciso at the Shooting Gallery (previously previewed). If you have ever observed people looking at their works in person, you will notice that the viewer gets closer and closer to the artwork as they try and get a better look at the details. Looks like an emerging artist that we have been following, Melissa Haslam, has landed a show in LA. She opened in a group show called “Blender” last night at the new combined Cerasoli-LeBasse Gallery in the artsy Culver City district. The new gallery is a merge between Project: Gallery and the Cerasoli Gallery (formerly The Lab 101) and hopefully will help this Australian artist have more exposure to U.S. collectors.
