aPOPcalypse Now! is the new D*Face show, and it’s a special one. D*Face, has created an entirely new body of work for the show at Black Rat Press Gallery in London. And while still recognizably D*Face, shows a marked stylistic departure. D*Face has taken time out of his busy schedule to encapsulate the show’s central message thusly: “My work reflects our popular culture encompassing the American dream and the ideal of good triumphing over evil, no longer relevant in today’s society where the ‘invade now […]

Influential street artist Shepard Fairey has been a cornerstone of the US urban art scene for more than a decade, but his influence trancended mere street art after he created an image of Barack Obama so powerful, that it became the image that symbolized Obama’s presidential campaign. How fitting that the LA based Fairey will come to Washington DC to speak about the social and political issues that have influenced his art work. The famous Corcoran Museum will hold a symposium with Shepard Fairey and Al Farrow. Both artists will […]
The “Art For Hope” benefit (previously mentioned) took place at Merry Karnowsky Gallery last night. This was a special “one night only” group show to raise funds for the Obama campaign. Although this event was not planned very far in advance, everything came together nicely. Many of the contributing artists were in attendance last night -Â Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, Kent Williams, Mari Inukai, Jason Shawn Alexander, and Camille Rose Garcia, just to name a few. In addition to the artwork, there were several tables […]
What do you get when you put an empty, rundown building together with the UK’s hottest urban/street gallery? Just add a little graffiti and you’ll get one of the freshest shows of 2008! As promised, Arrested Motion was on hand for the exclusive preview opening of the Lazarides Outsiders show. In attendance was a veritable who’s who of the UK Urban art genre. Antony Micallef, Conor Harrington, David Choe, JR and even Steve Lazarides himself was on hand to mingle with the packed 2 floor […]
Masakatsu Sashie‘s show “Under Fluorescent Light” opened last Saturday at GR2 on the west side. As usual, his detailed spheres encompassing urban elements (buildings, vending machines, air conditioners, television sets) were quite eye-catching. It’s as if his so-called “orb paintings” shrunk the ingredients of city living into a compact package for consumption. Another interesting item for sale was this model kit of one of his “orb paintings” that was for sale. Limited 50 pieces and nicely priced at $100, these must have sold out. Hopefully […]
As a follow-up to our preview of Kaws’ “Saturated” show at Emmanuel Perrotin in Miami, we have some EXCLUSIVE pictures from our friend Kim, who generously shared with us a little opening night access! Kaws was on hand to sign some goodies for his legion of fans! It seems that Kim even got a little gift from the man himself! *Note that this show is “curated” by Pharrell and were NOT commissions for the trend-setting producer. So, the works were available for sale to the general public, but as […]
Many have waited with baited breath for the first photos from Audrey Kawasaki’s first solo show out of the States to appear on the net. She finally had a chance to upload show photos from Mondo Bizzarro (Italy) onto her blog yesterday. For a couple weeks, the only image available was her next to her showstopper “Two Sisters” that had been floating around on flickr. Now there are plenty like the ones below… Such nice frames, more after the jump.
