REVOK, RIME, and ROID. Despite growing up and coming of age in different parts of the world (Riverside, Brooklyn, and London respectively), these three influential writers share a deep love for their outlawed art and a passion to stay true to their roots even though life gave them many reasons to give up. Tomorrow night, the Known Gallery will be displaying new work that all three developed together while spending some time in Detroit in the aptly named joint show Perseverance. AM stopped by to […]

Previews: Charming Baker — ‘Every Thing Must Go’ @ Mercer Street Studios, London

Charming Baker is back in London with a new pop-up exhibition that previews this evening at Mercer Street Studios (16 Mercer Street), an attractive space in Covent Garden. AM had a nose around the venue during the final preparations to check out Baker’s recent canvases, prints, as well as sculptures — a medium we haven’t associated with him before. All the canvases have already pre-sold, which may help to explain why the artist appeared so relaxed on the eve of his show. Every Thing Must […]

He’s currently in the UK for the London limb of his Hallelujah World Tour which began in New York City in February (featured).  The pop-up event is being held at the Dairy, with the opening taking place on the evening of Wednesday […]

James Marshall (aka Dalek) @ Birmingham Visual Arts Gallery (UAB)

After ten straight days of painting, albeit with the help of some university art students, Dalek (interviewed) has completed a massive four panel, site-specific installation within the Birmingham Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Alabama. With minimalism more reminiscent of his Psych Optic Black Light Fuzz (Part 1 & Part 2) exhibitions over the winter than some of his more traditional work, the street artist turn gallery veteran utilized simple geometric forms and subtle shades of blue to strong effect. On display through August […]

Previews: Stormie Mills & Remi/Rough – Selected Moments @ Unit 44, Newcastle

Currently in residence at Newcastle’s Unit 44 gallery space, Remi/Rough and Stormie Mills are putting together the work for their collaborative exhibition entitled Selected Moments. The pairing have worked alongside each other on numerous occasions, and the very different styles that each artist brings compliment each others work perfectly. Collaborations can often sound like a good idea at the planning stage, but it is rare to see the actual execution of the work, well – work. Stormie’s figurative work occupies Remi’s abstract landscapes in an emotive blend of […]

While Ai will tragically no longer be in attendance as a result of his unwarranted arrest and prolonged detention by the Chinese […]

Among the guests, AM spotted artists Peter Kennard, Matt Small (interviewed) and Giles Walker. Also present was Douglas’s New York dealer, Andrew Edlin of Andrew Edlin Gallery, who’d flown in the day before to attend. Due Date consists […]
