With the imminent opening of the first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat scheduled for the 21st, a couple Banksy pieces have shown up near the venue overnight. On his Instagram account, Banksy noted the irony of the Barbican, “a place that is normally very keen to clean any graffiti from its walls”, hosting the work of the legendary graffiti artist. While the eyes of the world were focused on the results of the French presidential election, Banksy revealed his latest street piece in coastal town of Dover in the UK, just across Calais, France, where he was active 2 years ago (covered). One week since Banksy’s latest & arguably one of his strongest stunts to date was revealed to the public, we’ve received the first official photographs of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem (covered). With local visitors enjoying the quiet space in an otherwise loud and turbulent area, these images give us an even closer look at the hotel premises, including the artworks which the infamous artist created & installed in the former pottery workshop building. Back in the West Bank area for the third time, the elusive artist officially opened Walled Off Hotel. Tomorrow (December 2nd) in London, Lazarides will be opening a Banksy Print Gallery at the Mondrian Hotel. Specializing in selling limited editions from the infamous street artist on the secondary market, the space in South Bank will also feature a collection of photographs as well as ephemera from that period of time. After an Istanbul premiere in January of 2016, Banksy’s unofficial and unauthorized retrospective is currently on view at Amsterdam’s Beurs van Berlage. The Art of Banksy includes over 85 pieces selected by the elusive artist’s former agent, Steve Lazarides, making it the biggest show of Banksy work ever put together.
