Releases: Brendan Monroe x Raised by Wolves – “Pendleton Wool Blanket”

A couple days ago, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) announced the release of a blanket he collaborated on with Raised by Wolves featuring his geometric patterns. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18: Papercut Lounge

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! Long Beach (more coverage here) the Papercut Lounge worked with a group of artists to make zines available to festival attendees (which you can still purchase online here). The popup space not only served as a shop but also featured a cascading installation of books by Olga Lah and a large painting from Brendan Monroe as well as hosted the kickoff and closing party for the week-long, city-wide event. Recap: Brendan Monroe – “Formations” @ Heath Ceramics (Los Angeles)

Continuing his longstanding collaboration with Heath Ceramics (also see 2014 in LA and 2015 in SF), Brendan Monroe (interviewed) recently held a showing at their Los Angeles showroom. Entitled Formations, the focus of the new body of the work was experimenting with Heath tile’s flat clay surface as a new medium for his organic patterns. Rounding out the exhibition was a selection of framed wall hangings, large and small, along with drawings and blob sculptures, some of which can still be viewed in the gallery space. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Mammatus” @ Curator’s Cube

On Saturday, January 14th, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) will be opening a show in Japan at Curator’s Cube. Entitled Mammatus, the new body of work includes ceramic sculptures and black and white ink drawings. While the sculptural work are more figure-based and reference the American artist’s earlier work, the drawings feature graphic shapes and movement like his more recent murals, a few of which will be painted in the Tokyo showspace. Brendan Monroe x Equinox Hollywood Murals

Those who are lucky enough to be able to visit the iconic new Hollywood location of Equinox fitness clubs will be greeted by three new murals from Brendan Monroe (interviewed). Located at 1550 North Vine Street, the gym features three walls painted over with some of the signature abstract and patterned imagery from California-based artist. Streets: Inter|Urban project (Cleveland)

Jasper Wong from POW! WOW! recently joined forces with Fred Bidwell from Transformer Station as curatorial team for the INTER|URBAN public arts program 2016. This original project is working on transforming Cleveland’s public transit rail system into a large-scale public art experience. Through artwork that can be enjoyed on their commute, this program seeks to challenge public transit riders emotionally and intellectually, while making physical and cultural connections to their surroundings.
