Openings: Os Gemeos – “Nos Braços de um Anjo” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

The hottest twins in the art world landed in Milan for their much anticipated second show with Galleria Patricia Armocida entitled “Nos Braços de um Anjo” (In the Arms of an Angel), which opened last night. Os Gemeos premiered their latest body of work, consisting of beautiful canvas paintings, sculptures and of course their famed installations for the lucky folks of Italy. Last week, important shows for two young artists, Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani opened jointly at the Carmichael Gallery (their last show before moving to the new Culver City location). Mark Jenkins brought many of his classics indoors such as the paper tape carousel horse and faceless hooded mannequins. Video: Jonathan Yeo x Tate Shots

Tate Modern continues its “Tateshots” series with a video tour of their “Pop Life” show (covered). Their selection for the guest tour guide is none other than Jonathan Yeo, whose controversial portraits and artwork often utilize pornographic imagery. Jonathan gives us his unique take on some of the “erotic” elements of “Pop Life” from Jeff Koons to Andy Warhol. Discuss this show here.

Openings: Saelee Oh – “Infinite Roots” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Saelee Oh capped off the trifecta opening alongside of Josh Keyes (covered) and Doze Green (covered) at JLG. The LA based artist filled the “gallery II” space with a multitude of mediums that cohesively brought together the theme “Infinite Roots.” Her upbeat works featuring female figures and animals floating in an organic environment interwoven with one another were fun to experience. Especially noteworthy were her hand cut paper images that expressed much via simple silhouette contrasts reminiscent of the renowned Kara Walker, another AM favorite. […]

Openings: London Art Fair

This year’s London Art Fair, held from January 13-17, attracted over 23,000 visitors and featured a wide variety of art to hold their attention. No matter how many art fairs we see or attend, we can never get enough of tremendous amount of paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, and other art on display – buffet style. Take a look at all the pics after the jump including fantastic new works from Jin Young Yu, whom we interviewed early last year.

Teaser: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “In Case You’re Lost” @ Frey Norris

During the winter break, AM dropped by Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama’s (interviewed) studio to check out his progress for his first solo with San Francisco gallery Frey Norris. He’s definitely stepped his game up and this latest evolution of his signature characters, colors and patterns had our eyes glued to the studio walls.
