Video: Dale Grimshaw – ‘Semi-Detached’ @ Signal Gallery

Check out this nicely put together video showing Dale Grimshaw getting busy with the work from his upcoming exhibition Semi-Detached opening this Thursday 6th October at Signal Gallery. Dale’s fourth solo show in London will see the artist unleash some of his personal demons, which are expressed in the metaphoric form of his violent father and the troubled upbringing Dale and his family experienced throughout his childhood. Expect some powerful, disturbing and very personal imagery in the form of oil paintings and woodblock prints. Sounds [...]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

Sweet Toof seems to be the unintentional focus for AM this week.  Seeing his work on shutters, walls and wheels he certainly has been getting about.  Definitely a favourite, was seeing his new piece on Bethnel Green Road with Brooklyn graffiti artist, Smells, a real winner. A nice addition to the trackside was added by Rowdy next to some great rollers by Horror. There was more painting again this week from Malarky, collaborating either with Billy, Mr Penfold or Sweet Toof, always a pleasure to [...]

Openings “Beyond Punk” @ Signal Gallery

If you’ve ever been to Signal Gallery, you’ll know it’s not the largest gallery space out there, so when we heard that the guest list had been closed at 250 people for the “Beyond Punk” exhibition opening due to the high demand to get on the guest list, we knew that we would be in for a squeeze! Typical Thursday evening opening nights in London tend to be busy, but the crowds usually move between different exhibitions. Not so for this show. When we turned up, [...]

Interview with Gaye Advert / Preview: “Beyond Punk” @ Signal Gallery

Two of our cultural loves come together this week in an artistic punk rock mash-up. “Beyond Punk” is a group art exhibition curated by femme punk icon Gaye Advert, the former bass guitarist of The Adverts. The show features a selection of musicians from the punk era who were either artists prior to being engulfed in the music scene or have turned to art as their form of expression. Several artists featured in the show are non-musicians, but have been long time followers of the [...]

Openings: Dale Grimshaw – “Arcana” @ Signal Gallery

Dale Grimshaw’s vibrant paintings were on full display last Friday when his new show opened at the Signal Gallery in London. His new series of works, “Arcana”, centered around the characters of a deck of tarot cards such as “The Fool”, “The Eight of Swords” and “Judgement” seen from left to right in the photo above.  He also found time to throw up a mural, which you can see peaking through the window. With this body of work, Grimshaw proves he is a master of [...]

Preview: Dale Grimshaw – “Arcana” @ Signal Gallery

London artist Dale Grimshaw’s third solo exhibition, “Arcana”, will be showing at the Signal Gallery starting next weekend. For this new body of work, Grimshaw takes inspiration from the imagery of the Tarot, taking his figurative paintings in a new yet still emotive and raw direction. Fans of his mixture of the abstract and realistic work will want to be there for the opening on April 9th. Another preview image after the jump.

Openings: “Represent” Group Show @ Blackall Studios

A group show that we previewed here a while back, “Represent,” opened a couple weeks ago at Blackall Studios in London. Curated by Matt Small (interviewed), the show featured artists such as Swoon (interviewed), and ELBOW-TOE (interviewed) among others – all who have developed their own approach to portraiture. Once reserved for the rich, these artists use portrait painting to bring focus to social issues that otherwise may go unnoticed. In fact, part of the proceeds from the show Single Homelessness Project, a charity Small [...]
