Openings: Souther Salazar & Tobias Fike – “Today is the Day” & “Then and Now and Then” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Forsaking his adopted hometown of Portland for several weeks, Souther Salazar traveled to Denver in order to bring a new installation to life at the David B. Smith Gallery. Working onsite, he created a snow covered landscape full of sloth like creatures ensnared in conflict with a thin tongued beast rising out of a colorful pool. Titled Today is the Day, it includes all of the signature Salazar elements including his color palate and the feeling of boundless imagination. Despite the violent motif, the piece […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Miami Project

The Miami Project successfully launched its second rendition during Basel week with a well-curated selection of U.S. galleries, including such notable names as Yossi Milo, Joshua Liner, Mark Moore, Richard Heller and David B. Smith. Located in the Wynwood Arts District, the young art fair focused on primary representation of emerging and mid-career artists, which was a nice counterpoint to its much larger neighbor, Art Miami. Overall, Miami Project was well-attended, and both galleries and collectors seemed very enthusiastic about the showing. Below is a […]

If you previously have had the pleasure of seeing Minnesota artist Gregory Euclide’s work in person, then you will surely attest to what a immersive experience his multi-dimensional mixed media work can be. David B Smith Gallery, who represents his work in Denver, have just published a limited edition giclee print – titled Untitled. Previews: Jason Thielke – ‘Zero-zero’ @ David B Smith Gallery

David B. Smith Gallery in Denver’s next exhibition will be Zero-zero – a new collection of work from Jason Thielke. Unlike Thielke’s recent work where he uses gel transfer and laser etching to produce his compositions, Zero-zero promises an entirely fresh body of work comprised of drawn and painted works. It’s been almost 2 years since Thielke’s last solo exhibition of New Works at DBS where AM interviewed him ahead of the show. He tells us that Zero-zero is about achieving a hazy or obscure […]

Tirelessly sketching, Josh Keyes continues the neverending evolution of his dystopian narrative in preparation for his next solo exhibition, entitled The Magicians Garden, at Fecal Face Dot Gallery in San Francisco. Opening April 7th, Josh recently stated in an interview the new body of work “will showcase imagery that plays on genetic mutations in a post apocalyptic setting”. If the meticulously executed reference drawing above is any indication of what is in store, the show should continue Josh’s uncanny ability to break new conceptual and […]
