Rewind: March 12 – March 18

First up for this week’s Rewind feature is this video showing Evan Roth’s novel use of spray cans from his Propulsion Painting series (via today and tomorrow). These creations were featured in his recently opened Welcome to Detroit showing at Eastern Michigan University. You can see more footage of the work here if you are interested. Streets: World Roundup (March 5 – March 11)

Starting off this week’s roundup is this new stencil from Bast seen on the streets of New York. This is the first we have shown you from him since his collaboration with Aiko at the end of last year. Teaser: “Winter Group Show” @ White Walls

This Saturday night, February 11th, the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco will be opening their annual Winter Group Show. Streets: Eine (Mexico)

Street typography connoisseur, Ben Eine, recently paid a trip to Mexico to get up on some walls. With almost a month to paint his signature lettering, the UK-based artist has done alot of damage so far with more to come. In particular, a long piece that spells out “The Bread Of The Rich Is The Struggle Of The Poor” caught out eye. See that piece and more after the jump…

This week’s world roundup of street work is heavily tilted towards Art Basel Week Miami. With so many artists in town, there was bound to be some overlap on walls and in some cases – collaborations. Not sure if the Buff Monster & COPE2 piece above was planned as a tag team effort, but they seem to fit nicely together. While on our way to hit up a plethora of shows associated with Art Basel Week Miami last night at the Design District, we passed by the The Living Room installation. For this week’s world roundup of street work, Miami continues to be a hotpot as Art Basel Miami Week gets inexorably closer and closer. This newest piece is from the UK-based Eine who used some borrowed paint from ABOVE for this piece. Openings: “Made In Polaroid” @ Phillips de Pury

AM recently attended the star studded charity art show Made In Polaroid held at Phillips de Pury. The benefit was a one night auction that featured 50 works created by the 50-50-50 project using Polaroid’s mobile printer. All proceeds went to support Free Arts NYC. Numerous notable artists including Marilyn Minter, Jean Pigozzi, Will Cotton, Patrick Demarchelier, Phillip-Lorca Dicorica, Steven Klein, Matthew Rolston, Paulo Roversi, Lady Gaga, James Franco, Maripol, Nate Lowman, Chris Anthony, Estevan Oriol, Gary Baseman, Tyra Banks, EINE, Stella IM Hultberg, Krista Huot, Nick [...]

Highlights: ArtPadSF, San Francisco

San Francisco, last weekend, hosted a slew of fine art fairs around the city. One noteworthy fair was the inaugural edition of ArtPadSF (held at the legendary Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin), which focused mainly on Bay Area galleries that feature contemporary and emerging art. Each room of the hotel featured a different gallery’s display and the lounge played host to panel discussions on art.
