Openings: “Atrophic Existence” @ Show & Tell

A couple Saturdays ago, Show & Tell Gallery played host to a cohesive group show from Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, Joshua Barndt, and Alex Lukas entitled Atrophic Existence. Along with some pretty nice pieces from a group of painters whose work focuses on urban decay and disintegration, Gillette also brought some beautiful sculptural renderings of his shantytown structures and you could not miss the massive central installation from Barndt entitled The World is a Mountain and Everything Gets Buried. Show & Tell Gallery looks set to round off a fine year with a fine group showing, Atrophic Existence, opening on December 11th. Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, and Alex Lukas all will be exhibiting new paintings with the shared theme of decay and disintegration of the urban landscape. Openings: Art Shack @ Laguna Art Museum

Last weekend, the Laguna Art Museum opened their doors to crowds of art fans anxious to check out the newest exhibition – Art Shack. The group show included installations by artists like Mike Shine (featured), Martin Wittfooth, Kenny Scharf, Clayton Brothers (featured), and Jeff Gillette (who showed recently in LA) with a fantastic three-dimensional representation of his signature “slum” imagery. Last Saturday night marked the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo at Copro Gallery, “Dismayland”. If you made the obvious connection between the name he chose for the show and the happiest place on earth, then you would be right.
