Basel Week Miami ’11: Cooper Cole Gallery @ Scope

During Scope art fair we got a chance to catch up with Toronto’s Cooper Cole Gallery. Hosting a solid array of names familiar to readers of AM, the gallery presented great pieces from artists such as Cleon Peterson, Jesse Harris, Maya Hayuk, Ryan Wallace and Steve Powers. We were particularly taken with the always colorful and imaginative pieces by Jen Stark. Who has always had the viewer in mind when she creates her interactive works of art.

This week’s street work roundup around the globe starts with some new public art in London from Von, who recently released his Semblance collector’s box set. As we previewed a few days back, PULSE is getting ready for its big reveal in Los Angeles next weekend, running from September 30 to October 3. Jen Stark will be present at the inaugural Southern California iteration of the increasingly exciting contemporary art fair. This past weekend, AM stopped by to catch a fresh exhibition at Martha Otero Gallery. As explained in our preview, the curiously titled Oniomania means “to compulsively buy”. Over the weekend, Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto opened a two person exhibition, Double Rainbow Rainbow (previewed), a smart curatorial pairing of two woman that each play with color in distinct and effective ways. There will be an interesting pairing of artists tomorrow night at the Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto with a new exhibition entitled Double Rainbow Rainbow opening. Jen Stark, who is known for her intricately beautiful paper cuttings will be showing alongside NYC-based Maya Hayuk. Both have shown their mastery in working with colorful patterns – Stark in the three-dimensional and Hayuk in paintings.
